This is a bright, warm yellow with a clear golden cast and strong chroma. It reads light rather than deep, and the color stays fairly clean instead of drifting gray or earthy.

MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to AMS-STD-595 23785 is useful for specification-driven work on panels, housings, switch covers, brackets, guards, enclosures, carts, and other fabricated parts. It can also work for color-coded accessories, training pieces, mock-ups, and touch-up on components that need to stay aligned with a government color reference.

Because the color is light and saturated, coverage can be affected by the substrate underneath. Dark, uneven, or contrasting surfaces may show through until enough film is built, and the final appearance can shift with primer, film thickness, and sheen. Gloss will usually make the yellow read cleaner and brighter, while lower sheen can soften the look.

If you are matching an existing part, keep in mind that a standard-reference match is not the same as an aged coating that has faded, chalked, or lost sheen. For fit-sensitive or acceptance-sensitive work, the actual part or an approved sample may be a better target than the code alone.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ AMS-STD-595 23785 *

What does AMS-STD-595 23785 tell me when ordering paint for my project?

AMS-STD-595 23785 identifies a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion system, or formal approval status. If your project requires a specific coating system or acceptance process, confirm those requirements separately before ordering.

Will a match of AMS-STD-595 23785 look the same on an older in-service part?

Not always. Weathering, fade, sheen change, texture, and the condition of the existing coating can make a correct match of AMS-STD-595 23785 read differently next to an aged part. For a visible repair, compare against the actual part condition and consider a full-part repaint or an existing-part sample match if the surrounding finish is critical.

How should I plan dry time for AMS-STD-595 23785 paint?

Use the product instructions for the specific MyPerfectColor format you order, because dry-to-touch, recoat time, handling time, and full cure are different milestones. The right project plan depends on the paint format, film thickness, temperature, humidity, and ventilation. Do not assume that a standard color code like AMS-STD-595 23785 gives you a drying schedule.

Why can AMS-STD-595 23785 look different after application even if the color match is correct?

Sheen and finish can change how AMS-STD-595 23785 appears once it is applied. Gloss, satin, matte, texture, and film build all affect visual perception, so the code alone does not describe the full final appearance. If you need a close visual result, make sure the finish level you order matches the project requirement.

What kinds of projects commonly use AMS-STD-595 23785 paint?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 23785 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, training aids, mock-ups, fixtures, and other fabricated components. It is a practical choice when a maintenance, fabrication, procurement, or prototyping job calls for a government color reference rather than a decorative color choice.
