PMS 2142 U is a Pantone PMS color specified for visual brand alignment across painted elements. It presents a balanced violet-purple character with a contemporary, creative, and confident visual tone that reads expressive without appearing neon or overly dark.
The color shows a mid-range lightness with an LRV of 43.48 and leans cool with a clear violet bias. It appears moderately saturated and carries a subtle blue-violet undertone that becomes more apparent under cool lighting.
PMS 2142 U works well in branded environments where a distinctive purple hue is needed without overpowering adjacent colors. Coverage consistency may benefit from proper priming, and perceived color can vary with lighting conditions and finish selection.
Similar colors:
PMS 2141 U: slightly lighter and softer, with reduced visual depth.
PMS 2143 U: darker and more saturated, with stronger purple intensity.
PMS 7663 U: cooler and more muted, with a more restrained violet appearance.

PMS 2142 U is a Pantone PMS color, which means it is a licensed color standard, not a generic color name or formula. Ordering from an authorized Pantone licensee ensures the paint is matched to the official Pantone reference, not an approximation.
This matters for brand and marketing work because unlicensed matches can shift in hue, saturation, or brightness, especially under different lighting. Licensed reproduction helps reduce approval risk when PMS 2142 U needs to visually align with printed or fabricated brand elements.
To order PMS 2142 U, first select the paint format that fits your application, such as spray paint or another available format. Next, choose the sheen or finish required for your project, since this affects how the color will appear.
Then confirm quantity and review any options before checkout. PMS codes define the color target only, so making the correct format and finish selections is essential for achieving the intended visual result.
The perceived look of PMS 2142 U can change noticeably depending on finish. Glossier finishes tend to appear brighter and more saturated because they reflect more light, while matte or flat finishes often look softer and slightly darker.
When matching PMS 2142 U for brand-facing displays, choose the finish intentionally and evaluate it under expected lighting. Finish choice is one of the most common reasons a Pantone color looks different after application.
When applying PMS 2142 U across large surfaces, plan for consistent application technique and sufficient coating thickness. Saturated Pantone colors often need multiple coats to achieve even color and hide.
Apply each coat uniformly and allow proper flash and dry times between coats. Variations in film build or application speed can cause visible shifts in PMS 2142 U across a large branded surface.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 2142 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2142 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
