PMS 7688 U is a Pantone PMS color commonly specified for brand, display, and marketing environments. It conveys a restrained, professional blue character with a slight violet bias, reading as confident, composed, modern, and deliberate.
The color appears medium-dark with an LRV of 32.78 and reads distinctly cool. It shows moderate saturation and carries a subtle violet undertone that separates it from more neutral corporate blues.
PMS 7688 U works well in controlled brand environments where lighting and finish are managed to maintain consistent color perception. Darker and cooler than many standard blues, it can appear heavier under low light, so finish choice and surface preparation can influence clarity and uniformity.
Similar colors:
PMS 7687 U: slightly lighter and more open, with less visual weight.
PMS 7689 U: darker and cooler, with increased depth and reduced openness.
PMS 7679 U: more neutral and less violet, with a flatter blue appearance.

Yes. PMS 7688 U is a saturated Pantone color, and colors in this range can have lower hide than more neutral tones. This means you may need additional coats to achieve a uniform appearance, especially on light or contrasting substrates.
Plan for proper surface preparation and expect that coverage may vary by substrate and application method. For high-visibility brand work, testing coverage on the actual material before full production helps avoid surprises.
For most brand approval workflows, ordering a sample of PMS 7688 U is strongly recommended. A sample allows stakeholders to review the color on the real substrate and under the installed lighting conditions where it will be seen.
This step is especially important for large builds, multi-part displays, or projects that require formal signoff. Sampling reduces the risk of rework if adjustments are needed after visual evaluation.
The "U" in PMS 7688 U indicates a specific Pantone reference context. Pantone codes can include suffixes or series designations, and those details matter when matching to brand standards.
Before ordering, confirm that PMS 7688 U is the exact reference specified in your brand documentation. Using the wrong series or suffix can result in a color that is visually different from what was approved.
Sheen can significantly affect how PMS 7688 U is perceived. Higher sheens tend to increase apparent brightness and saturation, while lower sheens can make the color appear slightly more muted.
When choosing a sheen, consider viewing distance, lighting, and the substrate. For brand-critical applications, evaluating a sample of PMS 7688 U in the intended sheen helps ensure the final appearance meets expectations.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 7688 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
