PMS Cool Gray 6 U is a Pantone PMS neutral gray specified as a standardized color reference for brand, display, and marketing environments. It conveys a controlled, professional, and understated presence that supports balanced visual systems.
The color presents as a mid-light gray with an LRV of 42.2 and a slightly cool tendency. Its very low saturation and clean undertone keep it visually neutral without strong color bias.
PMS Cool Gray 6 U works well where neutrality is required alongside stronger brand colors or graphic elements. Because mid-tone grays can show surface variation in higher-sheen finishes, careful surface preparation and consistent application can help maintain uniform appearance under varied lighting.
Similar colors:
PMS Cool Gray 5 U: slightly lighter and more open, with less visual weight.
PMS Cool Gray 7 U: darker and heavier, with increased visual density.
PMS Cool Gray 6 C: similar value but appears crisper and slightly cooler in perception.

PMS Cool Gray 6 U is a Pantone PMS color standard, and like all neutral grays, its appearance can shift based on lighting and viewing conditions. Different light sources such as daylight, LED, or fluorescent lighting can change how warm or cool the gray appears.
To reduce surprises, evaluate PMS Cool Gray 6 U under the same lighting where it will be installed or viewed. Viewing angle, surrounding colors, and surface sheen can also influence perception, so checking a physical sample in context is recommended for brand-critical applications.
PMS Cool Gray 6 U defines a color target, not a paint formula. When ordering this color, the correct paint type depends on where and how it will be used.
For interior brand displays, exhibits, or prototypes, interior paint or spray paint formats are typically appropriate. For exterior signage or installations exposed to weather and UV, an exterior-rated paint system should be selected. Choosing the correct product ensures durability while maintaining the intended Pantone color appearance.
PMS Cool Gray 6 U is a licensed Pantone Matching System color. Accurate reproduction requires access to Pantone standards and approved formulation methods.
MyPerfectColor is an authorized licensee of Pantone, which means PMS Cool Gray 6 U is reproduced to match the Pantone reference as closely as possible in paint and spray paint formats. This is important for brand and marketing projects where color consistency across vendors and materials is required.
Yes. For projects that require brand approval or involve high visibility, ordering a small sample of PMS Cool Gray 6 U is strongly recommended before committing to a full order.
Sampling allows you to evaluate the color on the actual substrate, with the chosen finish, and under installed lighting. This step helps confirm acceptance within brand approval workflows and reduces the risk of rework if the appearance differs from expectations.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS Cool Gray 6 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS Cool Gray 6 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
