PMS Warm Gray 5 U is a Pantone Matching System color commonly specified in brand and identity programs where a dependable neutral is needed. It presents as controlled, understated, and stable, with a gentle warmth that avoids looking cold or stark.
The color has a mid-range lightness with an LRV of 39.36 and reads as warm rather than cool. It shows low saturation and a subtle warm undertone that distinguishes it from cooler neutral grays.
PMS Warm Gray 5 U works well in brand-facing environments where a neutral needs to feel approachable rather than technical. Consistent surface preparation and even application can help maintain a uniform appearance, and lighting conditions should be considered when confirming the final look.
Similar colors:
PMS Warm Gray 4 U: slightly lighter and less visually dense, with a softer overall presence.
PMS Warm Gray 6 U: darker and heavier, with increased depth and reduced reflectance.
PMS Cool Gray 5 U: similar in value but cooler and more neutral, with less warmth.

PMS Warm Gray 5 U is part of the Pantone Warm Gray family that is often specified in brand standards for backgrounds, typography support, and neutral brand elements. In these cases, the Pantone code functions as a visual reference target to communicate intent across vendors and materials, not as a paint formula.
When ordering paint to match PMS Warm Gray 5 U, the goal is visual alignment with the Pantone reference under expected lighting and on the actual substrate being used.
PMS Warm Gray 5 U is a relatively light neutral, so coverage is generally more forgiving than very saturated Pantone colors. However, the final appearance can still be affected by the substrate color and surface uniformity.
Using a neutral or light gray undercoat can help achieve more consistent results and reduce the chance of seeing substrate variation through the finish. Always plan to apply multiple coats and evaluate coverage on a sample surface before full production.
In sign, display, and exhibit fabrication, PMS Warm Gray 5 U is commonly used when a brand or design specification calls for a controlled, neutral tone that supports other brand colors. The Pantone code serves as the agreed-upon color target for fabricated components.
Because materials and finishes vary, it is best to review a physical sample painted to PMS Warm Gray 5 U on the actual substrate. This helps confirm appearance under show or retail lighting before final approval.
The Safety Data Sheet is based on the specific paint product and chemistry, not on the Pantone color code itself. PMS Warm Gray 5 U does not have its own SDS.
Once you select a paint type, such as spray paint or another available format, the correct SDS can be found in the SDS library for that product. Always review the SDS that corresponds to the exact paint you are ordering.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS Warm Gray 5 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
