PMS 549 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a subdued blue-gray with a restrained, professional character. It conveys calm, stability, and visual softness, making it well suited to brand systems that favor low contrast and controlled color impact rather than bold saturation.
The color has a mid-dark lightness, with an LRV of 27.04. It reads as cool and blue-leaning, with low to moderate saturation and a gray-influenced undertone that softens its overall appearance.
PMS 549 U works well on large surfaces, panels, and display components where visual comfort and consistency matter more than vibrancy. Careful surface preparation and even application can help maintain uniformity, particularly under varied lighting conditions.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

PMS 548 U: slightly darker and more neutral, with less visible blue influence.
PMS 550 U: lighter and more open, with a softer gray-blue appearance.
PMS 5503 U: cooler and more gray-forward, with reduced blue clarity.

Finish has a meaningful impact on how Pantone PMS 549 U is perceived. A gloss finish will reflect more light, making the color appear slightly brighter and more saturated. Satin or semi-gloss finishes tend to balance color depth with reduced glare. Matte finishes absorb more light, which can make PMS 549 U look darker or softer compared to the Pantone reference.
If visual accuracy is critical, especially for brand-facing elements, evaluate a sample in the intended finish and lighting before committing to full production.

Consider durability needs based on handling and surface contact, and always review a physical sample on the actual substrate before producing large quantities. This helps confirm color appearance, coverage, and overall visual impact.
Proper surface preparation helps ensure consistent appearance for Pantone PMS 549 U. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust, oils, or residues. Degreasing is recommended where applicable.
Light scuffing may be appropriate on smooth or glossy surfaces to promote adhesion. Before full application, apply a small test area to confirm adhesion, coverage, and color appearance on your specific substrate.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 549 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
