Pantone™ PMS 516 U

Pantone PMS 516 U is used as a brand reference color when organizations need a consistent visual target across printed materials, displays, and physical components. It is commonly specified in brand standards for marketing environments, exhibits, prototypes, and display fabrication where visual alignment to the Pantone reference matters more than matching an existing painted surface.

Because Pantone PMS codes are communication standards rather than paint formulas, the goal is visual agreement to the Pantone swatch under expected lighting and viewing conditions, not chemical equivalence.

When applying Pantone PMS 516 U across larger areas, plan for consistent coverage and technique. Apply multiple light, even coats rather than heavy passes, and keep overlap patterns consistent from start to finish. Changes in spray distance or speed can create visible banding or patchiness.

Highly saturated Pantone colors can have lower hide, so additional coats may be needed to achieve a uniform appearance. Testing on the actual substrate before full application helps confirm coverage expectations.

Pantone PMS 516 U is matched visually to the Pantone reference, not converted from a published paint formula. Factors like substrate color, surface texture, film thickness, and lighting can all influence how close the final appearance looks.

For high-visibility or approval-driven projects, it is best to order a sample and evaluate it under the actual lighting and viewing conditions. This step helps manage expectations and reduce risk before committing to a full production run.

The finish choice affects how Pantone PMS 516 U is perceived. Gloss finishes typically increase color punch and saturation but can introduce glare under strong lighting. Matte finishes reduce reflections and glare but may appear slightly softer or less vivid.

Consider viewing distance and lighting conditions when deciding. For close-up or brightly lit environments, matte can improve readability. For displays viewed from a distance where impact matters, gloss may better reinforce the brand color.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
