PMS 451 U is part of the Pantone PMS system and is commonly specified as a standardized brand reference color. It conveys a calm, natural, subdued, earthy, and understated visual character that reads as balanced rather than vivid.
The color appears mid-light with an LRV of 32.81. It leans warm with a yellow-green bias and shows low to moderate saturation, giving it a softened appearance. An earthy undertone reduces visual sharpness and overall intensity.
PMS 451 U works well in branded environments where a restrained, organic color presence is required without drawing strong visual focus. Its muted saturation can help mask minor surface variation, though proper priming may still be helpful on uneven or high-contrast substrates. Compared to more chromatic yellow-greens, it appears quieter and less sensitive to lighting shifts.

Pantone PMS 451 U is a color communication reference, not a finish or process specification. It does not define sheen, substrate, film build, or application method. Those factors strongly affect appearance, especially when applied next to an existing coating.
Because of this, a Pantone reference cannot reliably reproduce the look of an already installed finish for spot areas. For brand-facing applications, PMS 451 U works best when the Pantone color itself is the visual target across all components, rather than trying to visually blend into an existing surface.
Paint matched to Pantone PMS 451 U is made to order. Production lead time depends on the paint type you choose and current production volume.
In general, you should plan for a short manufacturing window before shipment rather than same-day fulfillment. If your project has a fixed marketing or installation date, ordering early helps reduce schedule risk.
Yes. The suffix in Pantone codes provides important context about the reference standard. PMS 451 U is not interchangeable with other versions of the same number.
Before ordering, confirm that PMS 451 U is the exact code specified in your brand standards or project documentation. Using the wrong reference can result in a visible color difference, even if the base number appears the same.
Primer requirements depend on the paint type, substrate, and exposure conditions. Bare, porous, or difficult substrates often need a primer to improve adhesion and color uniformity.
Using the appropriate primer can also help achieve more consistent coverage when applying PMS 451 U, especially across mixed materials. If you are unsure, confirming primer guidance before ordering helps avoid rework.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 451 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
