Pantone™ PMS 448 U

Pantone PMS 448 U is a color communication standard, not a paint formula. For prototypes and concept models, the goal is visual brand alignment rather than material-specific performance. Choose a paint format that fits how the model will be built and viewed, such as spray paint for even coverage on complex shapes or small components.

Plan to evaluate the color on the actual substrate and under the lighting where the prototype will be reviewed. If brand approval is required, ordering a sample first is the safest way to confirm that PMS 448 U meets expectations before producing multiple parts.

The Safety Data Sheet is tied to the specific paint product and chemistry, not to the Pantone PMS 448 U color code itself. Once you select the paint type and format, the corresponding SDS can be found in the SDS library for that product.

If you are reviewing safety or compliance requirements, make sure you are looking at the SDS for the exact product you plan to order, since different paint types will have different safety information even when matched to the same Pantone color.

Yes. Even when the color target is Pantone PMS 448 U, changing the finish can change how the color is perceived. Higher gloss finishes typically appear darker and more saturated, while matte or flat finishes can look lighter or less intense.

When comparing samples, always compare the same finish under the same lighting. A matte sample and a gloss sample can appear different enough to be mistaken for different colors, even though both are matched to PMS 448 U.

Pantone PMS 448 U defines a brand color target, but it is not intended for part-specific or wear-related matching. If you need very close visual alignment to an existing physical item, the most reliable path is to send in the actual part so it can be matched directly.

This approach accounts for the original substrate, finish, and any aging or application effects that a Pantone reference alone cannot capture. Pantone matching is best used for reproducing brand colors, not for precision matching to an existing object.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
