PMS 405 U is a Pantone PMS color specified as a deep, low-chroma olive-gray within the Pantone Matching System. It conveys an understated, serious, and utilitarian vibe with earthy, subdued, and controlled visual character.
The color appears very dark, with an LRV of 10.66. It reads warm-leaning due to its olive-brown undertone and maintains low saturation for a muted appearance.
PMS 405 U works well in brand environments where low reflectance and minimal visual distraction are important, such as back panels, structural elements, or secondary brand fields. Its depth can obscure surface inconsistencies, but uneven priming or absorption may still affect uniformity, especially on porous substrates.
Similar colors: PMS 404 U: slightly lighter and more open, with a softer gray appearance.MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone™ PMS 405 U color in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 405 U is a Pantone visual reference, not a finish specification. The same color matched into paint can look noticeably different depending on sheen.
Gloss finishes tend to appear darker and more saturated because they reflect more light. Satin or semi-gloss can increase perceived richness while still showing surface detail. Matte finishes usually appear lighter and flatter, which can reduce perceived depth and contrast.
If brand approval is important, evaluate PMS 405 U in the actual finish and lighting where it will be used. A finish change alone can shift how the color is perceived even when the Pantone target is the same.
PMS 405 U defines the color target, but it does not define the paint type, coating system, or substrate. Choosing the right product depends on where and how the color will be used.
When requesting help, be ready to share the substrate, indoor or outdoor exposure, desired finish, and application method. This information allows the color to be matched into an appropriate paint format while keeping brand appearance in focus.
If you are unsure, MyPerfectColor can help you narrow the correct paint type before ordering so the PMS 405 U match performs as expected in your application.
Yes. PMS 405 U is commonly used as a brand color target for signs, displays, and exhibit components where visual consistency matters.
Because Pantone is a visual standard, results can vary by material, finish, and lighting. For fabricated elements, it is best to review a sample applied to the actual substrate rather than relying only on a Pantone book reference.
This approach helps confirm that the PMS 405 U match meets brand expectations in the real environment where it will be seen.
Pantone PMS colors like PMS 405 U are intended for brand color communication, not for precision matching to an existing painted object.
If your project requires matching an existing part, surface, or previously painted component, the most reliable approach is to send a physical sample for color matching. This allows the match to be made directly to the real material rather than only to a Pantone reference.
Using a physical part avoids expectation gaps that can occur when a Pantone code is used beyond its role as a visual brand standard.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 405 U. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 405 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
