PMS 2738 U is a Pantone PMS color known for its deep violet appearance with a pronounced blue-purple bias. It conveys a bold, dramatic, and authoritative visual presence and is often perceived as intense, modern, and visually dense.
The color appears extremely dark, with an LRV of 2.52, and reads as distinctly cool. It is highly saturated, which gives it strong visual intensity, and it carries a deep violet undertone rather than a neutral purple.
PMS 2738 U works well in controlled brand environments where lighting and finish are selected to support its depth and saturation. Because it is very dark and highly chromatic, careful surface preparation and uniform application can help avoid patchiness, particularly in matte or low-sheen finishes.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting. Similar colors: PMS 2745 U: slightly lighter and less visually dense, with reduced saturation.MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone™ PMS 2738 U color in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 2738 U is a Pantone Matching System color identifier. The number 2738 is the specific color target, and the suffix U indicates the uncoated Pantone reference. Pantone codes are communication standards, not paint formulas or finishes.
To avoid ordering the wrong target, always specify the full code exactly as PMS 2738 U. Do not rely on similar names or drop the suffix, since PMS 2738 C and PMS 2738 U are different references and can look noticeably different when produced.
Ordering a standard Pantone PMS match for PMS 2738 U is appropriate when the Pantone reference itself is the color target. This is common for brand-facing displays, signage, exhibits, prototypes, and marketing installations where visual alignment to the Pantone standard matters most.
If the project requires formal brand approval, evaluation under installed lighting, or confirmation across multiple substrates, consider ordering samples first to confirm appearance before full production.
Yes. Even when the color target is PMS 2738 U, changing the finish can change how the color appears. Higher gloss levels typically make colors look deeper and more saturated, while matte finishes can appear flatter or lighter.
This means a matte sample and a gloss sample of PMS 2738 U can look like different colors when viewed side by side, even though they are matched to the same Pantone reference. Always compare samples in the same finish and lighting you plan to use.
Primer needs depend on the paint type, the substrate, and the exposure conditions. For vivid and saturated Pantone colors like PMS 2738 U, a proper primer can help with adhesion, uniform appearance, and coverage, especially on challenging or dark substrates.
If you are unsure, review primer recommendations for your specific substrate and paint format before ordering. Using the correct primer helps ensure the Pantone match performs as expected in brand and display applications.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
