Pantone™ PMS 233 U

Pantone PMS 233 U is a Pantone Matching System reference used as a visual color target for brand-facing elements like signage, displays, and exhibit components. In these contexts, the Pantone code communicates the intended brand color across vendors and materials, rather than specifying a paint formula or finish.

Because fabricated signs and displays use different substrates, coatings, and lighting conditions, the safest way to confirm acceptance is to review a physical sample of PMS 233 U on the actual material being used. This helps ensure the finished piece meets brand expectations before full production.

The choice between matte and gloss for Pantone PMS 233 U affects how the color is perceived rather than whether it is a valid match. Gloss finishes generally appear more saturated and vibrant, which can help PMS 233 U stand out in displays or exhibits viewed from a distance.

Matte finishes reduce glare and reflections, which can be important under strong or uneven lighting. If the color will be closely inspected or viewed under bright lights, matte may be easier to evaluate. When appearance is critical, ordering samples in both finishes and reviewing them under actual lighting conditions is recommended.

When matching Pantone PMS 233 U on metal or existing powder-coated surfaces, surface preparation and the original coating can influence the final appearance. Variations in gloss, texture, and base color can shift how the Pantone match is perceived.

Highly saturated Pantone colors like PMS 233 U may also require additional coats to achieve uniform coverage on metal. For high-visibility or brand-critical components, it is best to test the color on a prepared sample part before committing to full production.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
