PMS 7601 C is a standardized color from the Pantone PMS collection. It has a distinctly muted, earthy red-brown vibe with subdued warmth and grounded visual weight. The overall impression is technical, mature, and robust, lending itself to applications requiring a natural, confident presence without excessive saturation or vibrancy.

PMS 7601 C is a distinctly dark color, with low light reflectance (LRV: 8.79). The color is warm, due to a pronounced red-brown character. It demonstrates moderate, muted saturation—noticeable color identity without being highly vibrant. The undertone is earthy, with brown and muted red influences rather than clean primary red or orange. The color is sensitive to finish; glossier sheens may enhance warmth and depth, while matte finishes further subdue and ground the appearance.

PMS 7601 C is often used in brand identity systems to convey heritage, strength, or stability, particularly when a grounded or natural visual signature is required. The color is referenced in environmental graphics and retail display programs seeking an organic, understated focal element. It is specified for exhibit components and branded environments where highly saturated reds are inappropriate.

PMS 7601 C works well when a visually rich, organic red-brown is needed to anchor branded or environmental elements, especially in high-traffic or public-facing installations. Evaluate the finish carefully, as higher gloss can increase perceived color depth while matte finishes can lend a more natural, subdued result. Lighting will affect the warmth and undertone—cooler light can mute red notes, while warm light will intensify brown-red richness. Compared to similar colors, PMS 7601 C maintains visual presence without drifting into the territory of either saturated red or generic brown, making it valuable for applications requiring authenticity and restraint.

PMS 7602 C — Lighter and more neutral, reducing the strong earthy red undertone of PMS 7601 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7601 C

What should I consider when specifying Pantone PMS 7601 C for a pop-up or retail environment?

When using Pantone PMS 7601 C in pop-up or retail spaces, prioritize durability, visual consistency, and accurate sampling. PMS 7601 C is a dark, earthy red-brown that can appear different depending on lighting and finish. Test samples on your actual substrate and in your planned installation lighting to confirm the appearance before committing to large-scale production. For brand-facing installations, ensure the coating format meets your durability needs, especially in high-traffic areas. Evaluate both gloss and matte finishes, since PMS 7601 C can shift in depth and warmth depending on sheen and environment.

How long does it take to produce custom paint matched to Pantone PMS 7601 C?

Pantone PMS 7601 C paint is made to order. Typical production times depend on product type and current order volume, but most orders are fulfilled in a few business days. Larger orders, specialty formats, or custom finishes may require additional lead time. Plan ahead if you are working within tight installation schedules, and contact support if you have urgent timing requirements for your PMS 7601 C project.

Are there any challenges to achieving an accurate match for Pantone PMS 7601 C paint?

Matching Pantone PMS 7601 C requires precision because brand results must be visually consistent. Factors like substrate material, finish (matte or gloss), and lighting can affect how PMS 7601 C appears once applied. MyPerfectColor carefully formulates products for visual accuracy, but sample evaluation is always recommended, especially for high-profile or critical brand installations. Color perception can shift noticeably under different conditions, so check samples under installation lighting on your intended substrate before proceeding with full production.

What should I know before applying Pantone PMS 7601 C to metal or previously powder-coated parts?

If using Pantone PMS 7601 C on metal or powder-coated components, prepare the surface by cleaning thoroughly and scuff-sanding if needed. Existing coatings and gloss levels can change the look of PMS 7601 C after application, sometimes impacting adhesion and finish. Always test PMS 7601 C on a sample part to check appearance and performance before painting all components. This helps prevent surprises with color or finish variations across your project.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7601 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
