PMS 2390 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, a standard reference system for color specification in branding, display fabrication, and industrial design. The color projects a restrained, technical, and contemporary vibe. It possesses a medium-dark value and delivers understated color presence, making it operationally suitable for applications requiring visual distinction without excessive vibrancy or oversaturation.

PMS 2390 C appears as a medium-dark color (LRV 17.4), indicating a moderate light reflectance. The color shows a cool temperature, leaning toward a blue-violet on the hue spectrum. PMS 2390 C exhibits moderate chroma, making it distinctive but not excessively saturated. The undertone is predominantly blue with a noticeable violet influence. Finish can influence perceived richness and depth; glossier surfaces may emphasize blue-violet vibrancy.

PMS 2390 C is suited for applications where a controlled yet prominent brand color is required, such as branded environments, display components, and prototype elements. In direct lighting and with higher-gloss finishes, the blue-violet undertones become more apparent. When using this color, consider surface preparation and number of coats to ensure uniform coverage, as colors with moderate chroma sometimes require attentive application for even appearance. PMS 2390 C offers more visual depth compared to lighter or less chromatic violets and blues, while avoiding the intensity of fully saturated bright purples.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 2728 C is lighter and somewhat more vibrant, providing a cleaner blue-violet effect.
  • PMS 2746 C is darker and features a stronger blue cast, resulting in a more subdued appearance.
  • PMS 2665 C is more chromatic and warmer, with additional purple-red influence in the hue.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2390 C

Are there any noteworthy brand or display applications for Pantone PMS 2390 C?

Pantone PMS 2390 C is used where a controlled, medium-dark blue-violet is needed for branded environments, display components, and prototypes. While PMS 2390 C is part of the standard Pantone system for marketing and industrial design, unique or high-profile associations are not documented for this code. It is chosen in professional settings for its balanced presence, especially when brand specifications call for a cool, technical look without excessive saturation.

How should I prepare my surface before applying Pantone PMS 2390 C paint?

For best results with Pantone PMS 2390 C, clean the surface thoroughly to remove dust, oils, and residues. Degrease as needed, then lightly scuff glossy or slick substrates to improve adhesion. Make sure the area is dry and free from contaminants before painting. It is also a good idea to test a small area to verify compatibility and appearance before completing your project, especially on unusual or sensitive materials.

What does it mean to order Pantone PMS 2390 C as paint?

When you order Pantone PMS 2390 C in paint, you are requesting a paint color matched to the Pantone PMS 2390 C standard. Pantone PMS is a visual color reference and communication tool. It is not a specific paint formula or finish. The paint will be made to visually match the Pantone reference under standard conditions, but slight differences can appear depending on material, gloss, and lighting. If precise brand approval is required, it is best to review a sample on your actual substrate and finish.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2390 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 2390 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2390 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
