PMS 2116 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, a global color communication standard widely used for consistent color specification in branding, display fabrication, and industrial design. This color reads as assertive, technical, vivid, deep, and visually commanding in application settings.

PMS 2116 C appears dark, with an LRV of 15.6, indicating low reflectance and strong visual weight. The color shows a pronounced cool tendency, aligning with its blue-violet hue angle. This color presents a high level of saturation, maintaining intensity and clarity in most finishes. The undertone is distinctly blue with a violet cast, likely to remain pronounced across lighting types. Finish selection can influence depth and lightness; gloss finishes may intensify the color’s vibrancy and perceived depth.

PMS 2116 C is typically effective when a brand or design requires a bold, modern statement that stands out in both digital and physical environments. Visibility is strong against lighter backgrounds, but the color may lose clarity under low light or on textured surfaces. Careful surface preparation and multiple coats are recommended to ensure uniform coverage, especially due to the depth and saturation. Compared to similar dark blue-violet PMS shades, PMS 2116 C tends to maintain its vibrancy and does not shift toward gray or black in most lighting contexts.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 2756 C is similar but slightly darker and carries a more muted blue appearance.
  • PMS 2665 C is lighter and leans more strongly toward violet, with less depth.
  • PMS 2738 C is a deeper, more neutral blue-violet, offering less chromatic vibrancy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2116 C

What should I consider when specifying PMS 2116 C for a pop-up or retail environment?

When using PMS 2116 C in pop-ups or retail environments, evaluate both lighting and surface preparation before committing to large-scale application. Test the color with a physical Pantone reference and a sample of the actual paint in the intended lighting and finish. PMS 2116 C is a low LRV, highly saturated blue-violet that can look different depending on lighting and gloss, so sampling is important. For best durability and visual consistency, confirm the coating system suits your display needs, especially in high-traffic or temporary installations where impact resistance may matter.

What is important when applying PMS 2116 C to metal or powder-coated parts?

When painting metal or powder-coated parts with PMS 2116 C, surface preparation is critical for both adhesion and final color appearance. Scuff and clean all surfaces thoroughly to remove gloss, dust, or any contaminants before application. Note that existing coatings or gloss levels will affect how PMS 2116 C appears after painting. It is recommended to create a sample on your specific substrate to evaluate coverage, color, and finish before full production.

Are there any challenges with matching PMS 2116 C exactly across different materials?

Yes, matching PMS 2116 C exactly can be challenging, especially across different materials or finishes. The high saturation and deep blue-violet of PMS 2116 C are sensitive to substrate, gloss, and lighting. MyPerfectColor uses processes designed for accuracy, but some variation is always possible. For critical branding projects, review a painted sample in the intended lighting and finish before approving large orders. This ensures your result aligns closely with the Pantone PMS target.

What are best practices for achieving uniform PMS 2116 C coverage over large display areas?

To keep PMS 2116 C uniform on large areas, use consistent application techniques and plan coats carefully. This color''s saturation means it may require multiple coats for full, even coverage without streaks or patchiness. Always mix materials well before use, maintain a wet edge, and work in controlled lighting where color shifts are visible. It is best to sample in advance, so you can confirm the final appearance across your display or installation.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2116 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
