PMS 2106 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS), which is a standardized color system widely used in brand, marketing, and display applications. This color presents a mid-tone, cool muted violet character with a restrained vibe—described as calm, technical, reserved, and modern. The relatively balanced lightness provides moderate visibility without high contrast, making it suited for controlled brand application where a non-aggressive hue is desired.

PMS 2106 C exhibits a mid-range lightness, with an LRV of 46.85. The color appears cool, trending towards violet on the hue spectrum. This color demonstrates low to moderate chroma, indicating subdued saturation. The undertone reads as muted purple with subtle blue notes. PMS 2106 C may show finish sensitivity, with higher gloss amplifying its bluish-violet qualities.

PMS 2106 C is appropriate for branded elements that require a reserved violet presence without being overtly saturated or luminous. It performs well where a subdued yet identifiable color is needed, such as in display panels, components, or elements requiring alignment with professional or technical brand palettes. Care should be taken to view samples in the intended finish and lighting, as appearance may shift towards cooler or warmer tones depending on environmental context. Compared to closely related violets, PMS 2106 C generally feels more neutral and less vibrant, reducing risk of oversaturation in composed designs.

Similar colors:
PMS 2096 C: Cooler and lighter, with a more pronounced blue cast.

PMS 2107 C: Darker and more subdued, offering increased depth and nuance.

PMS 2108 C: Slightly warmer and more chromatic, providing a more vivid violet impression.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2106 C

What coverage and hide factors should I consider when using Pantone PMS 2106 C paint for branded display projects?

Pantone PMS 2106 C is a mid-tone, muted violet that may have lower hide compared to deeper or less chromatic colors. For most branding and display applications, achieving even and visually consistent coverage with PMS 2106 C may require multiple coats, especially over contrasting base surfaces. To ensure the final color appears correct and meets brand expectations, it is important to apply a suitable primer and allow adequate drying time between coats. Viewing a painted sample in the intended finish and lighting will help confirm you have achieved the desired result. Planning for extra material and time is recommended to account for possible additional coats when specifying PMS 2106 C for brand-facing environments.

What should I know about preparing metal or powder-coated surfaces when matching Pantone PMS 2106 C?

When painting metal or powder-coated parts in Pantone PMS 2106 C, surface preparation directly impacts final appearance and color accuracy. Scuffing and thoroughly cleaning the surface ensures good adhesion and reduces risk of finish defects. The underlying coating or gloss level can influence how PMS 2106 C looks once applied. High-gloss backgrounds may amplify the bluish-violet qualities of this color, while very matte surfaces may mute its effect. It is recommended to test PMS 2106 C on a sample part in the target finish and lighting before production to confirm the results align with brand standards and project expectations.

How does Pantone PMS 2106 C support consistent brand experiences across displays and environments?

Pantone PMS 2106 C is specified within the Pantone Matching System to uphold a standard color reference across all brand-facing materials. By using PMS 2106 C as a defined target, brands and fabrication teams can achieve alignment between displays, signage, and components, no matter the material or production method. This promotes a cohesive and recognizable brand presence, ensuring that the muted violet tone is perceived consistently in different installations and environments. Always use the correct Pantone code and evaluate finished samples in application conditions for best results.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2106 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
