A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 16250 is a muted blue-gray with a cool cast and very low saturation. It reads as a restrained neutral rather than a clear blue, with medium-dark depth and a slight green bias that can become more noticeable depending on light and finish.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in this color can be used on equipment panels, brackets, enclosures, housings, vents, switch covers, rack parts, support hardware, and fabricated components where a government-standard reference needs to be carried across metal, plastic, or composite parts. It is also a practical choice for touch-up on carts, cabinets, fixtures, and prototype or training pieces that need to stay aligned with the specified Fed Std 595C target.
Because this is a low-chroma neutral, it usually behaves more predictably than a vivid color, but finish, texture, and substrate still affect the result. Sheen changes can make the color read lighter or darker, and repairs next to older coatings may show differences from wear, fading, or gloss shift even when the code match is correct. On dark or uneven substrates, coverage planning may still matter for a clean, even result.
Fed Std 595C and AMS-STD-595 are color references, not complete coating systems, so the code alone does not define chemistry, gloss, prep, or acceptance criteria. For inspection-sensitive or adjacency-sensitive work, the matched color should be evaluated against the specific part, aging condition, and project requirements rather than only the standard chip.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors
The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 16250 *
What does Fed Std 595C 16250 mean when I order MyPerfectColor paint?
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 16250 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface prep, corrosion protection, or approval status.
When you order from MyPerfectColor, you are selecting paint matched to Fed Std 595C 16250, not an official government-issued coating system. If your project has a separate specification for primer, finish, or acceptance, those requirements still need to be handled separately.
Can Fed Std 595C 16250 be used for touch-up on an older painted part, or do I need a different match?
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 16250 is the right reference when the goal is to match the standard color, but an older in-service coating can still look different because of fade, weathering, sheen change, texture, or prior repainting.
If you are touching up a visible area next to an aged coating, a standard-code match may not blend as well as a match to the existing part or a full-part repaint. For acceptance-sensitive work, it is usually better to test the match on the actual surface before committing to the full repair.
Will the finish affect how Fed Std 595C 16250 looks after application?
Yes. Fed Std 595C 16250 defines the color reference, but gloss, matte, satin, texture, and film build can all change how the finished part appears.
MyPerfectColor can supply a match to Fed Std 595C 16250 in different product formats, but the final visual result depends on the product you choose and how it is applied. If you need the closest possible visual result, match the finish requirement and not just the color code.
What prep should I do before applying Fed Std 595C 16250 to metal or over an existing coating?
For Fed Std 595C 16250, start with a clean surface. Remove dirt, oil, grease, and loose material, then scuff the surface if the existing coating is sound enough to paint over.
For bare metal, corrosion, oxidation, and substrate condition matter, so primer selection may be needed before applying the color coat. For existing coatings or mixed substrates, test a small area first to confirm adhesion and appearance on the actual part.
How should I plan dry time and recoating for Fed Std 595C 16250?
With Fed Std 595C 16250, dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different stages. The correct timing depends on the specific MyPerfectColor product format you choose, such as spray paint or touch-up paint.
Use the product instructions for the exact dry and recoat windows before handling the part or applying another coat. If the part will be assembled, shipped, or put back into service quickly, plan around the full cure time, not just the dry-to-touch stage.
