PMS 8042 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection and is classified as a metallic color. It exhibits a gold hue with a distinctly warm, vibrant, and engineered vibe. It is visually rich, attention-grabbing, and has a modern technical appearance, making it suitable for uses where metallic effect and precise color communication are essential.

PMS 8042 C appears medium-dark in value, with a measured LRV of 22.93. The color shows a strong warm tendency, with a gold metallic hue. The saturation is high, with vivid chroma typical of metallic finishes. Undertones present as distinctly yellow-gold. This metallic color is highly finish-sensitive; the final effect depends significantly on the paint process and substrate used.

PMS 8042 C is often chosen for branded retail fixtures, promotional displays, and wayfinding elements requiring a metallic gold look.

PMS 8042 C is effective when a vivid metallic gold is essential for visual impact, particularly in retail, commercial, or exhibit environments. It should be evaluated in the intended lighting and finish, as metallics are highly sensitive to both sheen and application technique. Coverage and appearance may also vary due to the nature of metallic pigments, and consistent substrate preparation is critical. Compared to other metallic golds, PMS 8042 C tends toward a warmer, more saturated gold effect without the dullness found in less chromatic alternatives.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 8042 C

What should I consider when using Pantone PMS 8042 C in a retail or pop-up environment?

When using Pantone PMS 8042 C for store fixtures or branded installations, evaluate the color in your actual lighting environment and the intended finish. This metallic gold is highly sensitive to sheen and viewing angle, which can impact the visual effect. Sampling the color on your chosen substrate is advised before committing to large-scale projects, as appearance may shift based on the substrate and application method. For high-traffic or temporary settings, also consider the expected durability of the chosen paint format.

Is Pantone PMS 8042 C paint custom made, and what does that mean for my order?

Pantone PMS 8042 C paint is custom made to order, matched to the Pantone PMS standard. Because these paints are mixed individually for each order, it is important to confirm your paint type, sheen, and quantity before purchasing. Modifying or returning a custom order is typically not possible after production starts. Sampling is recommended for larger projects or when finish is critical to your application.

How does finish affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 8042 C metallic gold?

The visual impact of Pantone PMS 8042 C metallic gold changes significantly with finish. A high-gloss or metallic finish will heighten reflectivity and enhance the vivid gold effect, while a satin or matte finish may reduce luster and soften the color. Always check a physical sample of PMS 8042 C in both the planned finish and lighting conditions before finalizing for a brand or display use case.

What coverage or undercoating steps should I plan for when using Pantone PMS 8042 C?

Pantone PMS 8042 C is a highly saturated metallic color and may require multiple coats for best coverage and visual uniformity, especially on contrasting or uneven surfaces. Using an appropriate base coat, such as a warm-toned primer, can help achieve consistent color and reduce the number of finish coats needed. Confirm coverage with a test sample on your actual substrate.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 8042 C?

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 8042 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
