Pantone™ PMS 554 C

Pantone books provide a printing industry reference for PMS 554 C, but the color chip is printed on coated or uncoated paper under controlled conditions. When PMS 554 C is matched in paint, the appearance may change depending on sheen, application method, substrate, and lighting. For the best brand consistency, test PMS 554 C paint on your actual material and review under final lighting before large-scale use. Expect possible differences from the book, especially between matte and gloss finishes.

Each spray can of PMS 554 C paint covers about 20 to 25 square feet per coat under ideal conditions. Coverage varies with the spray technique, surface type, and texture, as well as the color's inherent hide. Since PMS 554 C is a dark, moderately saturated color, it usually covers well, but porous or uneven surfaces and some lighter primed substrates may require extra coats. Calculate your total area and consider ordering extra cans for additional coats or touch-ups during installation.

When specifying PMS 554 C for pop-ups or retail installations, first assess durability needs for the surface and finish. Paint color appearance can change in high-traffic spaces or under different lighting types, so always sample PMS 554 C paint on actual substrate material and review the sample under the installed lighting. Confirm the finish matches your project's requirements, as reflectivity and gloss will affect perceived darkness and richness of PMS 554 C in the environment.

For PMS 554 C paint, start by cleaning the surface to remove dust, grease, or oils. Nonporous materials may benefit from light scuffing with fine sandpaper to help adhesion. Ensure the area is completely dry before painting. Test the PMS 554 C paint on a small spot to confirm adhesion and color appearance before proceeding with the full application. Good preparation helps achieve the visual quality and consistency expected with brand-standard colors.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
