Pantone® PMS 549 C. Paint And Spray Paint. MyPerfectColor is the official licensee of Pantone and authorized to reproduce the Pantone Matching System colors in spray paint and other paints.

PMS 549 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS) collection, used widely for brand identity and specification workflows. The color presents a clean, muted, and cool blue character with a subdued, professional vibe. With a lightness value that falls in the lower-mid range, PMS 549 C is often sought for applications where a blue tone is needed without strong saturation or visual intensity.

- PMS 549 C is moderately light in appearance (LRV 27.03), neither very bright nor especially dark. - The color is distinctly cool and sits on the blue spectrum, showing minimal warmth. - The saturation is controlled, delivering a muted or desaturated effect rather than a vibrant presence. - PMS 549 C contains understated, neutral-to-blue undertones, which contribute to its reserved look. - The color’s subtlety is sensitive to finish; glossier coatings may slightly enhance perceived depth and clarity.

PMS 549 C works well as a corporate brand or identity color where a quiet, authoritative blue is needed. It performs reliably in retail, exhibit, and marketing executions, especially when a cooler, less saturated blue is preferred to avoid dominant or overpowering effects. Users should evaluate finish choice and lighting environment, as more matte surfaces may make the color appear even more reserved. PMS 549 C can shift subtly when viewed under different light sources or finishes, so confirm appearance with a physical reference under final conditions. Compared to similar muted blues, PMS 549 C holds a steady balance between coolness and neutrality, offering a consistent baseline blue for system-critical signage and displays.

Similar colors:
PMS 550 C: Lighter and slightly more muted, providing an airier and softer blue.

PMS 548 C: Darker and deeper, with a stronger, more assertive presence and cooler tone intensity.

PMS 551 C: Slightly lighter and more chromatic, introducing a fresher, clearer feel.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 549 C

How should I verify I am ordering the correct Pantone PMS 549 C color and suffix for my project?

Pantone colors like PMS 549 C use letter suffixes such as 'C' (coated), 'U' (uncoated), or 'M' (matte) to define how the color should appear on different materials. Always check your brand standards, supplier brief, or official documentation to confirm the exact Pantone code and suffix required for your application. Ordering the wrong code or omitting a suffix could result in a visible color mismatch, especially for brand-critical signage or display jobs.

What factors should I consider when selecting interior or exterior paint for Pantone PMS 549 C?

When using Pantone PMS 549 C, choose a paint type rated for the environment where the color will be displayed. For interior projects, select interior paints or coatings that address traffic and cleaning needs. For exterior applications, order exterior-rated products to handle weather, sunlight, and durability requirements. Be sure to review your installation location and choose the appropriate product format to ensure long-term color quality and appearance.

Why is Pantone PMS 549 C often specified for sign, display, and exhibit fabrication?

Pantone PMS 549 C provides a standardized color reference for producing brand-consistent results in signs, displays, and exhibits. Using the defined Pantone code helps fabricators communicate exact color requirements to paint or graphic suppliers. Because color can appear differently on various materials, it is important to sample PMS 549 C on the chosen substrate under realistic lighting conditions before full-scale production, especially for high-visibility or critical brand applications.

Can I return custom Pantone PMS 549 C paint if it is not what I expected?

Pantone PMS 549 C paints and coatings are custom made to order to target the specified color. Because of this, returns or revisions can be difficult once manufacturing has begun. To reduce the risk of ordering the wrong finish or product type, review your requirements carefully before placing your order, and consider sampling if final appearance is critical. Confirm your sheen, format, and exposure needs in advance for best results.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 549 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 549 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 549 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 549 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 549 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
