PMS 464 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection. It delivers an earthy, muted appearance suitable for branding contexts where a grounded, natural, and unobtrusive impression is required. The color vibe is stable, understated, and practical, supporting use where visual alignment to natural tones is essential, especially for environmentally conscious identities or natural material simulations.

PMS 464 C presents as a medium-dark brown with a low light reflectance value (LRV 12.5), resulting in relatively low brightness.

The color exhibits a warm tendency due to its undertones and hue position.

PMS 464 C offers moderate chroma, giving it muted yet clear earthy presence without high saturation or vibrancy.

This color carries a distinctly yellow-brown undertone, providing an approachable and organic feel.

The perceived depth and warmth may shift in response to lighting and finish selection; matte finishes maintain its muted quality, while glossier sheens can introduce subtle richness.

PMS 464 C performs well in branded environments, display fabrication, and exhibit components where a naturalistic or grounded palette is required. Evaluate this color under final lighting and substrate conditions, as brown tones are sensitive to light temperature, which can make them read as either slightly greener or more ochre. Surface preparation is important to prevent uneven absorption, as lower reflectance browns can telegraph substrate imperfections. Compared to similar browns, PMS 464 C offers a balance between warmth and neutrality, reading neither distinctly reddish nor overly yellow.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 465 C is slightly lighter and less muted, presenting a warmer and sandier appearance.
  • PMS 463 C is darker and marginally cooler, with a deeper and more subdued effect.
  • PMS 7512 C is richer and more chromatic, providing a stronger yellow-orange undertone for higher visual impact.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 464 C

How does the surface texture affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 464 C when used in branded applications?

The texture of the surface coated with PMS 464 C can significantly influence how the color is perceived. Smoother textures reflect light more evenly, typically making the color appear brighter and more uniform. Rough or textured surfaces, on the other hand, create shadows and varied reflectivity that can make PMS 464 C look darker or more muted. For projects where brand consistency is critical, evaluate the color sample on the actual material and finish to confirm that PMS 464 C aligns with your visual expectations under real lighting conditions.

If I need to match Pantone PMS 464 C for a small localized area, what is the best approach?

Pantone PMS 464 C is intended as a brand color standard for visual reproduction in paint for marketing and fabrication, not for part repair or touch-up. If you require a precise match for a localized area or want the new paint to blend with an existing finish, the recommended approach is to send a physical part or sample for custom matching. Relying solely on the PMS 464 C code may not deliver the desired visual result on your specific material or over an aged surface.

Why does licensed and authorized reproduction matter for Pantone PMS 464 C paint orders?

Pantone PMS 464 C is a standardized color managed by Pantone, with specific formulas and visual standards. Licensed and authorized reproduction ensures that the paint made to PMS 464 C is matched to Pantone's standard, supporting brand consistency and accurate visual results in marketing and fabrication contexts. MyPerfectColor is authorized to reproduce Pantone PMS colors, giving confidence that your paint aligns as closely as possible to the intended PMS 464 C reference.

What should I know about coverage and undercoating when using Pantone PMS 464 C for brand environments?

PMS 464 C is a medium-dark muted brown with relatively low light reflectance, which can affect coverage. Achieving an even, opaque appearance may require multiple coats, especially over contrasting or porous substrates. Using an appropriate undercoat can help improve coverage and color uniformity, especially if applying PMS 464 C over light or uneven surfaces. Planning for these steps will support consistent brand color presentation across different components.

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 464 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 464 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
