PMS 378 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) standard color recognized for its earthy, subdued olive green appearance. The color is defined within the Pantone PMS system, which is widely used in branding, identity, and specification work where color accuracy across various substrates is required. PMS 378 C is often described as understated, technical, grounded, and natural, with a utilitarian vibe and a low level of visual brightness.

PMS 378 C appears distinctly dark, with an LRV of 9.01. The color exhibits a cool-to-neutral undertone, typical of olive and muted green pigments. PMS 378 C shows low to moderate saturation, resulting in a subdued, earthy effect rather than vividness. The undertone leans toward a yellow-green, producing an organic, natural impression. This color is moderately sensitive to finish: gloss increases richness and depth, while matte finishes further mute its already restrained quality.

PMS 378 C is chosen for applications where a dark, reserved green is needed to convey stability, utility, or a natural sensibility within a branded environment. It is often appropriate for accent features, backgrounds, or environments requiring low reflectance and visual subtlety. When specifying PMS 378 C in paint, always evaluate sample chips and paint-outs under final lighting and finish to confirm appropriateness, as dark muted greens can appear cooler or more neutral depending on adjacent tones and surface gloss. This color typically provides consistent coverage but may reveal brush marks or surface imperfections more in high-sheen applications due to its depth.

Similar colors:
PMS 418 C: Similar olive green but slightly lighter and less muted.

PMS 5743 C: Darker and even more neutral, approaching military green.

PMS 7743 C: Noticeably brighter and more chromatic with clearer green content.

PMS 7497 C: Warmer and lighter, with brownish-olive character.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 378 C

Why might PMS 378 C look different on metal, plastic, and fabric, even if the same Pantone code is specified?

Pantone PMS 378 C is defined as a color target, not a process or material. Appearance can shift across materials due to differences in surface absorption, texture, and reflectivity. For example, glossy metals may make PMS 378 C appear deeper than it looks on textured plastics or matte fabrics. Always evaluate PMS 378 C on the specific material and under final lighting to confirm it will visually align with your brand expectations.

How should I apply spray paint matched to PMS 378 C for the most consistent appearance?

For spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 378 C, apply several light coats rather than a single heavy one. Allow each coat to dry sufficiently before adding the next. This practice helps avoid runs and ensures even, brand-consistent color. Especially for deeper shades like PMS 378 C, lighter coats improve control of coverage and appearance.

What should I expect in terms of durability when using spray paint matched to PMS 378 C?

Durability of spray paint in PMS 378 C depends on your prep process, the environment, and any topcoat you use. Properly prepared surfaces and a suitable clear coat can help resist wear and exposure. For projects needing enhanced resistance to abrasion, chemicals, or weather, choose a paint type and topcoat that fit those specific demands. Always confirm your performance needs before selecting a paint format for PMS 378 C.

How does sheen affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 378 C in branded projects?

The sheen you select for PMS 378 C can strongly affect how the color is perceived. Higher gloss adds depth and can make the color look richer and darker, while matte or low-gloss finishes further mute this already subdued olive green. Make your sheen choice based on how you want PMS 378 C to read in the final setting, how much texture or surface variation you want to show, and what substrate you are painting. Test your selection with a sample when possible.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 378 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 378 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 378 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
