Pantone™ PMS 3258 C

Pantone PMS 3258 C is a standardized color reference for brand consistency, not a complete finish specification. It does not define sheen, texture, or how the color appears on different materials or surfaces. Because of this, using PMS 3258 C to touch up existing coatings can result in mismatched appearance, even if the underlying color is correct. For touch-up of an existing finish, it is necessary to match the sheen, substrate, and aging factors of the original surface, which Pantone standards do not cover. Using PMS 3258 C for this purpose may lead to noticeable differences rather than seamless results.

Ordering a standard Pantone PMS 3258 C color match is appropriate when your project requires brand consistency and visual alignment with Pantone specifications, such as for displays, signage, prototypes, or marketing environments. These situations rely on the visual target set by the PMS 3258 C standard, and exact substrate or finish matching is less critical than matching the reference color itself. This approach is best when visual brand accuracy is your main goal and not when you need to blend into existing coatings or surfaces.

The appearance of PMS 3258 C may change depending on the material or substrate it is applied to. Factors such as surface texture, absorption, reflectivity, and base color can affect how the color is perceived. A smooth metal panel may display the color more vividly compared to a porous or textured material like unprimed wood. For accurate results, always evaluate PMS 3258 C on the same material and under the same lighting that will be used in the final installation. This helps ensure your brand color appears as intended across different components or environments.

Choosing matte or gloss for PMS 3258 C depends on your visibility and design goals. A gloss finish increases punch, saturation, and reflectivity, making the blue-green stand out more at a distance but may introduce glare in strong lighting. Matte finishes reduce glare and give a softer appearance but can mute vibrance, especially in environments with lower lighting. For large displays under bright lights, gloss can create maximum brand impact, while matte may suit settings where reflection or viewing-angle issues are a concern. Consider final viewing distance and typical lighting when specifying your finish for PMS 3258 C.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
