PMS 1545 C (Pantone Matching System / Pantone PMS collection) is recognized as a dark, sober brown with understated and grounded visual qualities. The color conveys stability, reliability, and an organic tone, with a muted, technical, and reserved vibe. Its appearance is shaped by a low reflectance value, making it suitable for applications requiring depth and contrast without overt saturation or vibrancy.

PMS 1545 C exhibits very dark depth, with an LRV of 3.25. The color has a predominantly warm tendency. PMS 1545 C demonstrates moderate to low chroma for a brown, contributing to its muted and restrained quality. The undertone leans toward an earthy or slightly olive cast, which can appear more pronounced under certain lighting conditions. This color shows sensitivity to surface gloss and finish; higher gloss can slightly increase apparent richness, while matte sheens may enhance its muted character.

PMS 1545 C performs well where a grounded and unobtrusive brand or environmental element is needed—such as in wayfinding systems, exhibit backgrounds, or as a stabilizing accent to brighter corporate colors. Evaluate finish selection carefully, as gloss levels can alter both depth and richness. Surface preparation is crucial; imperfections are more conspicuous in deep, dark colors. In mixed-material contexts, always assess color appearance under installed lighting to ensure consistency relative to similar but more saturated or lighter browns.

Similar colors:
PMS 154 C: Slightly lighter and more chromatic, presenting as a warmer and more vivid brown.

PMS Black 4 C: Darker and more neutral, with less warmth and lower chroma, often used for near-black applications.

PMS 4975 C: Equally dark but with a cooler, less earthy undertone, offering a more subtle and subdued appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 1545 C

How does surface texture affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 1545 C in branding or displays?

The perceived color of Pantone PMS 1545 C can change significantly based on surface texture. Glossy or smooth finishes reflect more light and can make this dark, muted brown appear deeper or slightly richer. Matte or textured surfaces scatter light, which often increases the muted quality and can make PMS 1545 C appear lighter or less saturated. For best results, evaluate the color sample on the actual substrate and finish you intend to use. Always consider how lighting and sheen may influence your brand's visibility and consistency when specifying PMS 1545 C for signage or exhibit components.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 1545 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
