PMS 1255 C, from the Pantone PMS system, is a medium-dark, ochre-like yellow with a muted appearance. The color has a grounded, understated, and professional quality, with a warm and earthy vibe. It is frequently used where a robust yet not overly bright yellow is needed for branding consistency and visual contrast in environmental graphics, displays, and product prototypes.

PMS 1255 C is medium-dark in lightness, with a numeric LRV of 23.91. The color has a warm undertone, tending toward yellow-ochre. This color exhibits moderate to strong saturation, but is less vivid compared to primary yellows. The hue is earthy and muted, avoiding high chroma brightness seen in lighter yellows. The color is sensitive to gloss and lighting; higher gloss or strong directional light may make the warmth more pronounced.

PMS 1255 C works best when a yellow needs to appear solid, restrained, and professional, such as in branded displays, environmental graphics, and certain product finishes. Evaluate lighting and finish early, as differences in gloss and ambient light can alter the color’s perceived warmth and depth. Compared to other yellows in the Pantone system, PMS 1255 C provides a more subdued and less saturated appearance, helping it integrate into more classic or traditional palettes without overwhelming the surrounding design elements.

Similar colors:
PMS 124 C is lighter and brighter, exhibiting a more pronounced golden-yellow quality.

PMS 131 C is darker and more brownish, resulting in a stronger earth tone with reduced yellow intensity.

PMS 1235 C is lighter and slightly more saturated, presenting a more vivid yellow while retaining some warmth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 1255 C

How can I ensure consistent results when reordering PMS 1255 C for future projects?

To achieve the most consistent results with PMS 1255 C on repeat orders, use the same product type, sheen, and brand for each batch. Always reference the same Pantone PMS 1255 C color target, and if an approval sample or drawdown was used on prior runs, use that as your acceptance standard for future orders. Changes in format or finish can affect appearance and may produce perceptible differences, especially in lighting or when viewed side by side.

What is the recommended way to apply PMS 1255 C spray paint to achieve an even finish?

For the best results with PMS 1255 C spray paint, apply multiple light coats rather than a single heavy coat. Allow proper flash time between coats to let each layer dry before applying the next. This approach helps achieve more uniform coverage and reduces the risk of runs, uneven sheen, or color shifts. Deeper, more muted yellows like PMS 1255 C may require extra attention to coverage for a solid appearance.

Why is PMS 1255 C commonly specified for sign, display, or exhibit fabrication?

PMS 1255 C is often specified in fabrication because it is a Pantone brand standard color, enabling consistent visual outcomes across different vendors and materials. In sign, display, and exhibit projects, matching the Pantone PMS 1255 C reference helps maintain brand accuracy and visual continuity. For critical applications, sample the color on the actual substrate under the intended lighting to confirm it meets your requirements before moving to full production.

When should I request a sample or approval drawdown of PMS 1255 C before ordering a full batch?

It is advisable to sample PMS 1255 C before committing to a large order if the project is high-visibility, brand critical, or involves complex substrates and lighting. Sampling lets you evaluate how PMS 1255 C looks on your actual material and under the intended lighting conditions, helping you avoid surprises and ensure approved results before final production.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 1255 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
