A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36405 reads as a light, muted tan-beige with a soft warm undertone. It is not a bright color; the look is restrained and slightly yellowed rather than clean or cool, which gives it a practical, subdued appearance on finished parts.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to Fed Std 595C 36405 can be used on equipment panels, electrical enclosures, control boxes, brackets, carts, cabinets, and fabricated support parts when a government color standard is called out. It also fits smaller spray-paintable items such as vent covers, switch plates, hardware, speaker grilles, and trim pieces where the goal is to keep a set of components visually consistent to the same reference.
Because this is a light, low-chroma color, coverage usually depends on the substrate and primer underneath. Darker or uneven base coats may show through more easily, so even film build and proper prep matter. Sheen also affects the result: gloss or semi-gloss finishes can make the warm undertone read more clearly and can show surface texture and repair edges more readily.
A Fed Std 595C code defines the color reference, not the coating system or the condition of an existing part. If you are repairing aged, weathered, or previously repainted equipment, a standard-reference match may still read differently next to the surrounding finish because wear, oxidation, and gloss change the appearance. For acceptance-sensitive work, compare the match against the part and project requirements rather than assuming the code alone will resolve every visual difference.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36405 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the product chemistry, surface preparation, gloss level, corrosion system, or formal approval status.
If your project is specification-driven, order MyPerfectColor paint as a match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36405, then confirm the coating system details separately for the job.
Not always. Even when the color code is correct, an older in-service coating can have fade, weathering, sheen change, texture change, or contamination that makes the repair area stand out.
For Fed Std 595C 36405 touch-up work, a standard-reference match is often fine for maintenance, but a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part may be better when appearance is critical. If the part is acceptance-critical, compare against the actual surface condition before ordering.
MyPerfectColor can supply a custom-matched paint made to match Fed Std 595C 36405 in multiple formats where available, including spray paint and other touch-up-oriented options.
If you need a specific format for a project, choose the product type that fits the application method first, then use the Fed Std 595C 36405 code as the color reference target. The code tells you what color to match, not which product format to buy.
Use the dry-to-touch, recoat, and full-cure guidance for the specific MyPerfectColor product format you order for Fed Std 595C 36405. Those timing details come from the product, not from the color code itself.
For project planning, treat dry-to-touch, recoat window, and handling time as separate steps. If the job has tight turnaround or multiple coats, make sure the selected format and its instructions fit the schedule before you start.
No. Finish level can change how Fed Std 595C 36405 appears after application. Gloss, satin, matte, texture, and film build can all make the same matched color read differently on the finished part.
If appearance matters, match the color code and also confirm the finish you need for the substrate and the project. A color match to US Government Fed Std 595C 36405 does not automatically mean the final look will be identical across different sheen levels.
