A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 34230 reads as a medium-deep green with a cool bias and a noticeable gray cast. It is not a bright or yellow-green, and the moderate chroma gives it a controlled, functional look rather than a vivid one. With a lower LRV, it can appear fairly dark after application, especially on smaller parts or in a flatter finish.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference is supplied by MyPerfectColor for specification-driven work, not as an official government coating system. It can be used on panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, tool carts, support fixtures, railings, shutters, metal frames, switch covers, and fabricated components where a Fed Std 595C match is called out. It is also a practical option for maintenance touch-up, prototype hardware, restoration work, and color-coding parts across metal, plastic, or previously coated surfaces.
For ordering, keep in mind that a standard reference match is not the same as matching an aged in-service coating. Sheen, surface texture, primer color, and film build can change how this green reads after application, and darker substrates or uneven repairs may show contrast more easily. For acceptance-sensitive work, a project-specific sample or a match to the existing part may be needed.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 34230 is a color reference target, not a full coating specification. It tells you which government color to match, but it does not by itself define gloss, chemistry, surface prep, primer, corrosion protection, or approval status. For project planning, treat MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 34230 as the color match step and confirm the rest of the coating system separately.
Not always. Even if the color code is correct, an older coating can look different because of fade, weathering, sheen change, texture, or a different original paint system. If you are touching up next to an aged finish, compare against the actual part when possible. For a critical visible repair, a full-part repaint or an existing-part sample match may be a safer choice than relying on the standard reference alone.
Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different stages, and the timing depends on the specific MyPerfectColor product format you order and the job conditions. Use the instructions for the exact paint you select, then plan the work around the required coat intervals and handling time. If the project needs sanding, assembly, or service use soon after painting, allow extra time for full cure.
Yes, when the goal is to match a government color reference for equipment parts, panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, mock-ups, or color-coded hardware. MyPerfectColor can supply paint matched to Fed Std 595C 34230 in formats suited to specification-driven work. This is the right approach when you need the standard color itself, not a visual guess or an aged finish duplicate.
Clean and degrease the surface first, then remove loose paint, rust, or contamination. Scuff the surface as needed so the new coating can bond, and use primer if the metal or substrate requires it. If you are painting over an existing coating, test a small area on the actual part before starting a larger application. That is the safest way to confirm adhesion and final appearance for Fed Std 595C 34230.
