A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 14223 reads as a muted medium-dark green with an earthy yellow undertone and a low-reflectance finish target. It is not a bright or vivid green; the color sits closer to a restrained utility green with enough chroma to stay distinctly green.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this Fed Standard reference can be used for touch-up and repaint work on equipment panels, brackets, enclosures, cabinets, support hardware, racks, carts, and fabricated parts. It is also useful for color-coding tools, maintenance accessories, training pieces, or prototype assemblies where the code is the target and a consistent visual reference matters across different substrates.
Because the color is relatively dark and subdued, it usually covers with less visual jump than a very light or highly saturated color, but finish and surface texture still matter. Gloss levels, film build, and substrate color can change how deep or gray-green it appears after application, and repairs next to older or weathered coating can still show a sheen or aging difference even when the code match is correct.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 14223 is a color reference target. It identifies the color, but it does not by itself choose the coating chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion system, or any formal approval status. If your drawing, manual, or procurement package includes other requirements, follow those as well when ordering a match of US Government Fed Std 595C 14223.
Not always. Weathering, fading, sheen changes, texture, and the previous coating can make an in-service finish look different from the standard reference. If you are repairing next to an aged finish, the safer choice may be to match the existing part, spray a sample, or repaint the whole visible section instead of relying on the code alone.
Yes. The color code sets the color target, but gloss, matte, satin, texture, and film build can all change how US Government Fed Std 595C 14223 reads after it is applied. Match the finish called for by the project, and if the surrounding surface already has a sheen, keep the new coating consistent with it when possible.
Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different steps. Plan around the instructions for the exact MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint format you ordered for US Government Fed Std 595C 14223, not just the color code. Do not handle, assemble, or topcoat early unless the product directions say it is ready.
No. The code gives you the color target, but it does not determine whether the paint is suitable for interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemicals, or the substrate you are coating. Choose the MyPerfectColor product format that fits the service environment and material, and use the standard reference only for the color requirement.
MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use.
