A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 14272 reads as a muted medium green with a cool cast and low-to-moderate chroma. It is not a bright utility green; it has some grayness and enough depth to hold up on small metal and plastic parts.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint can be used for specification-driven spray work on brackets, panels, housings, enclosures, switch covers, hardware, and other fabricated parts that call for this government color reference. It is also practical for touch-up on carts, racks, mounts, guards, and training or prototype components where the code, not a decorative color choice, is the target.
Because this is a deeper, subdued green, finish and substrate can shift how it reads after application. Matte surfaces will usually make it look quieter and slightly grayer, while smoother or glossier finishes can make the green appear a bit cleaner and the surface condition more visible. On touch-up work beside older coatings, weathering and sheen differences may be more noticeable than the color code itself.
Fed Std 595C is a reference target, not a complete coating system, so matching the standard does not by itself define chemistry, prep, or acceptance. For critical work, the surrounding finish condition and project specification should be checked against the part, especially when matching an existing in-service coating rather than a new standard chip.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 14272 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the paint chemistry, gloss level, surface prep, corrosion protection, application method, or any formal approval status.
If your project is specification-driven, order MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 14272 and then choose the product type and coating system that fit the substrate and service conditions.
A correct match to Fed Std 595C 14272 can still look different next to an older in-service coating. Weathering, fade, sheen changes, texture, film build, and the original coating system can all affect the repaired area's appearance.
If the surrounding part is aged or heavily exposed, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part may be a better choice than matching the standard reference alone.
Start with the service environment, not just the color code. Fed Std 595C 14272 identifies the color target, but the right product also depends on whether the part is indoors, outdoors, exposed to abrasion, exposed to chemicals, or applied to metal, plastic, composite, or an already coated surface.
For simple color matching, MyPerfectColor can supply paint matched to Fed Std 595C 14272 in product formats suited to the job. For demanding service conditions, choose the coating type and surface prep that fit the environment before ordering.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 14272 can be ordered as MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected government color reference in formats such as spray paint and other touch-up options where available.
If you need a specific application method, choose the format that fits the part and the repair size. The color code is the reference target, while the product format determines how you will apply the paint.
Finish affects perceived color. With Fed Std 595C 14272, gloss, matte, satin, texture, and film build can all make the same matched color appear lighter, darker, or different in reflected light.
If appearance is important, match the finish as well as the color reference. A standard color match alone does not control how the final coating reads on the part.
