RAL7043 Traffic Grey B is a distinctly dark, subdued neutral grey used for industrial and architectural components that require low visual prominence. This shade has a low L value (34.02) and LRV (8.02), marking it as a decidedly dark grey. The a and b values (a: -1.72, b: 0.38) show minimal chromaticity, with a slightly cool but almost entirely neutral character. Chroma is very low (1.76), confirming its appearance as a subdued, near-neutral grey without strong undertones. Low gloss levels make RAL7043 appear almost charcoal; higher-gloss finishes can slightly accentuate its cool undertone.

Common uses include machinery and fabricated metal equipment where minimal reflectance or distraction is preferred, exterior railings, bollards, street furniture, correction and maintenance touch-up for RAL-specified powder-coated parts, and utility or service enclosures. RAL7043 is broadly compatible due to its low chroma and near-zero undertone, but because of its dark value (LRV 8.02), it can appear significantly deeper than mid-tone greys and might show light-colored dust or marks. This subtle coolness is more noticeable in high-gloss finishes or under direct artificial lighting. For strict visual matching to existing parts, reference physical samples, as sheen or texture may influence color perception.

Insights
- The L value of 34.0 and RGB values in the upper 70s confirm its very low reflectance and deep appearance.
- Chroma at 1.76 and b close to zero mean the color is extremely neutral, read as a true grey rather than blue or greenish.
- The minimal a and b values, alongside a hue angle around 167 degrees, ensure coolness without obvious color cast.

Frequently Asked Questions About RAL 7043 Traffic Grey B Paint

For RAL 7043 Traffic Grey B, when should I send a sample instead of ordering the standard RAL color?

Send a physical sample when acceptance will be judged against an existing part or when appearance risk is high.

  • Send a sample if: the goal is to match an existing coated part, large/continuous surfaces will be repainted, the surface is high-visibility, there are strict inspection/acceptance criteria, or you have a known OEM powder code you want matched (include the code and gloss level).
  • Standard RAL 7043 is typically sufficient if: coordinating across different materials where texture/sheens already differ, low-criticality touch-ups (small chips), or non-adjacent components where close visual harmony is acceptable.

How to submit: provide a clean, representative piece (flat if possible, at least 2"×2"), note desired gloss (e.g., matte/satin/gloss) and any texture (smooth/wrinkle). This minimizes rework and return risk.

Our drawing calls out "RAL 7043 Traffic Grey B." What exactly does that specify and what else should I include on the PO?

RAL 7043 defines the color target only-it is not a coating type or process. To avoid acceptance disputes, add the application details your project requires.

  • Confirm and specify: coating type (powder vs liquid), gloss/sheens (e.g., matte/satin/gloss or GU at 60 degrees if known), texture (smooth vs textured), and substrate/service environment (to select the right product family).
  • Define acceptance: is compliance to the RAL standard sample/card acceptable, or must it visually match an existing part? State this on the PO.
  • If only "RAL 7043" is provided: we will produce to the RAL color target in the selected product line. Without gloss/texture info, visual differences versus existing powder coats are likely.

Tip: For critical work, request a first-article or spray-out for approval before full production.

Will RAL 7043 Traffic Grey B liquid paint match our existing RAL 7043 powder-coated parts?

Not necessarily. RAL defines the color, but powder and liquid differ in gloss and texture, which changes appearance. We can supply RAL 7043 to the standard, or we can match your specific part if required.

  • If acceptance is to the RAL standard: order RAL 7043 in your required gloss; expect color alignment, but sheen/texture may differ from the powder.
  • If acceptance is side-by-side against your powder-coated part: provide a sample or the powder manufacturer/code and gloss level so we can match the actual appearance. This reduces risk of rejection.
  • For small touch-ups: standard RAL 7043 touch-up is often sufficient for chips, but expect texture/gloss differences to remain visible at certain angles.

Provide with your order: target gloss, any texture requirement, and (if available) OEM powder brand/code. Do not rely on code alone if an exact visual match to a part is required.
