RAL 7039 Quartz Grey Paint

  • Low-criticality touch-ups or small areas where close visual harmony is adequate.
• Request a custom or sample-based match when:
  • Acceptance will be judged against an existing coated part, enclosure, or fleet standard.
  • High-visibility faces or large, contiguous areas are involved.
  • You have an OEM powder code; include the code plus target gloss (e.g., 30/60/90 GU) and texture level.
  • Inspection mentions visual compare under controlled light or a tolerance (e.g., Delta E).
• Risks if you choose standard RAL instead of a match: powder vs. liquid and different gloss/texture can shift perceived hue; parts may be rejected when compared to an existing part rather than the RAL standard card.
• To avoid ambiguity on the PO:
  • If standard: "Supply RAL 7039 Quartz Grey to the RAL standard; finish = [gloss level]."
  • If matching a part: "Match color/appearance to attached sample or OEM powder for RAL 7039; provide approval panel prior to production."

• Paint pen: pinpoint chips, edges, hardware, and small fasteners. Fast, controlled application with minimal masking.
• Brush bottle: small chips/scratches up to a few centimeters. Good film build for bare-metal spot repairs after prep/primer.
• Aerosol/spray: larger scuffs or panels up to roughly 0.1-0.2 m². Best for blending; apply multiple light coats and feather edges.

Finish/compatibility notes for RAL 7039 on powder-coated parts:

• Expect sheen/texture differences; liquid touch-up cannot fully replicate some powder textures.
• To simulate texture, use light "dust" passes; align gloss with a compatible clear if required.
• Prep is critical: clean, degloss, remove corrosion, and prime exposed metal as needed.
• Verify resin compatibility with substrate and service environment before committing to a method.
• If appearance is critical after a test patch, escalate to a sample-based match rather than proceeding with generic RAL.

• Appropriate as a temporary or operational fix when the goal is fast protection or general visual alignment (small touch-ups, mixed materials, non-critical zones). Document on the PO: "Supply RAL 7039 Quartz Grey to the RAL standard (temporary protection)."
• Use a custom/sample-based match for permanent, inspection-critical work when the finish will be judged next to existing powder-coated assets or against strict acceptance criteria. Provide an OEM powder code or a physical sample, specify target gloss/texture, and approve a sample panel before production. Acceptance should reference the approved panel, not a generic RAL swatch.
• Why this matters: RAL defines a color target, not the coating process. Differences between powder and liquid systems (and gloss/texture) can change perceived hue and lead to rejection if compared to an existing part rather than the RAL standard.
