RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey Paint

Send a sample (or provide the exact OEM powder code) when acceptance will be based on how the coating looks on your part, not just on the RAL standard. RAL 7016 defines a color target, not the coating process, gloss, or texture.

• Send a sample if: the part must match an existing coated component; the surface is high-visibility or a large area; inspection is strict (side-by-side, defined tolerances); you know the OEM powder code and finish; gloss/texture is important or unspecified.
• What to include: a physical part or flat panel with at least a 2×2 in (50×50 mm) unbent area; target gloss (e.g., GU @60 degrees or matte/satin/gloss); texture description (smooth, fine texture, heavy texture); substrate and any clearcoat; any OEM powder code/manufacturer; intended inspection lighting and viewing distance.
• Ordering by the RAL code is usually sufficient for: small chip touch-up, functional protection, or cross-material coordination where sheen/texture already differ and minor visual differences are acceptable.

Without a sample or OEM code, the product will be matched to the official RAL 7016 standard under neutral lighting. This may not visually align with your existing finish if gloss or texture differs.

Color can appear different when finish and texture differ. Many RAL 7016 powder coats have fine texture or orange peel and lower gloss. A smooth liquid paint at higher gloss reflects more light uniformly and can look darker or deeper even at the same color target.

• Align finish: specify the gloss you need (matte/satin/gloss or GU value). A mismatch in gloss is the most common reason for rejection.
• Consider texture: if the part has a noticeable texture, request a texture-aligned solution or provide a sample/OEM powder code so we can match the appearance, not just the hue.
• Set expectations: for small chip repairs or hardware where textures already differ, a standard RAL 7016 in an approximate sheen is typically acceptable. For adjacent panels or large areas, use a sample-based match and define gloss/texture in the PO.

Lighting changes the perceived lightness and undertone of dark greys like RAL 7016. Daylight, LED, and fluorescent sources differ in spectrum; the same paint can look lighter outdoors and darker indoors. This can lead to metameric mismatches if inspection lighting differs from service lighting.

• Inspect side-by-side with your control (standard panel or approved part) under the actual lighting where the part will be used.
• If the product will see multiple environments, verify under at least two conditions (e.g., daylight and facility lighting) before approval.
• State inspection lighting and viewing distance on the purchase order to avoid disputes.
• Do not rely on monitor/phone previews or printed swatches for acceptance. For critical work, request a drawdown panel for sign-off under your lighting.

However, keep in mind that our version of RAL7016 Anthracite Grey is based on the color swatch contained in the official RAL color book.
