Expect a visual difference in sheen and texture. Liquid touch-up (brush/pen/aerosol) rarely replicates a factory powder finish, even when the color target is RAL 7005.

• Best use: small chips and narrow scratches. Avoid large flat areas and broad blend zones.
• Prep: clean, degloss/scuff surrounding area, and feather edges. Spot-prime only where metal is exposed.
• Finish selection: choose a gloss level that most closely aligns with the installed part. If unknown, test a small area first.
• Inspection: evaluate under the same lighting used in service; neutral greys can shift appearance under different light sources.
• If the existing coating has texture or special effects, plan for a sample-based match or broader repaint to meet strict cosmetic requirements.

• Bare carbon steel: use a corrosion-inhibitive primer unless applying an approved direct-to-metal system. Remove rust/scale, clean, and ensure a sound profile.
• Galvanized steel: remove oils/white rust, then use a galvanized bonding or wash/etch primer to promote adhesion.
• Aluminum: degrease, lightly abrade or treat, then use a self-etch or epoxy primer for adhesion.
• Previously coated (including powder): clean and scuff for adhesion. No primer needed unless you break through to bare metal; then spot-prime only those areas.
• Environmental exposure: for exterior or corrosive environments, primer is recommended even for small repairs to maintain protection.

Note: the RAL 7005 code controls color, not the system build. Choose primers based on substrate and service conditions, then apply the RAL 7005 topcoat compatible with that system.

• Verify the exact 4-digit code and name on the drawing or PO: RAL 7005 Mouse Grey.
• Confirm finish details that the RAL code does not define: gloss level and any texture requirement.
• Do not substitute nearby greys (e.g., RAL 7004, 7006, 7015); these are different colors despite similar numbers.
• Clarify intent: does the spec mean match the RAL standard chip, or match an existing installed part? If the latter, use a sample or OEM powder reference.
• When in doubt, request a drawdown/sample for approval before full production to prevent rework.
