RAL 6015 Black Olive Paint

RAL codes define a color target, not sheen or texture. Use standard RAL 6015 Black Olive when:

• Coordinating across materials where finishes already differ in sheen/texture.
• Low-criticality repairs (small chips, corrosion protection) where close visual harmony is sufficient.
• No strict inspection criteria; acceptance will be against a RAL reference under standard lighting.

Choose a sample- or OEM-based match when:

• High-visibility or large-area surfaces will be compared directly to an existing part.
• A known OEM powder code/supplier standard exists and must be matched.
• Contract requires defined tolerances, gloss, or texture alignment with the installed finish.

To avoid rework, state on the PO whether acceptance is against the RAL standard or the existing part, and specify the required gloss/texture. Note: On dark shades like RAL 6015, small gloss or texture differences are more noticeable.

RAL 6015 specifies color only; you must select sheen to meet your acceptance criteria.

• If matching installed parts: match their gloss level. If unknown, measure 60 degrees gloss on site or send a sample; your coating supplier can target that range.
• If acceptance is against the RAL standard (not an existing part): define an acceptable gloss window (e.g., matte, satin, semi-gloss, or gloss) to prevent disputes.
• Touch-up on textured powder: lower-sheen liquid touch-up usually blends better than high-gloss, but it will not replicate texture.

Document on the order: the acceptance reference ("match RAL 6015" vs "match existing panel") and the target gloss range (e.g., 20-35 GU satin) to reduce rejection risk.

Often yes. Many RAL 6015 parts are powder coated with orange peel or microtexture; liquid paints generally level smoother. This changes how light reflects and can make the same color appear darker or glossier-especially on dark colors.

• Small chips/edges: liquid touch-up is typically acceptable; expect slight sheen/texture difference.
• Larger areas or adjacent panels: texture mismatch will be obvious; use a compatible powder with similar texture, or request a sample-based match with specified gloss/texture expectations.
• If acceptance is against the existing assembly, state "match existing part" on the PO and provide a representative sample panel.

Lighting shifts perceived color and gloss. RAL 6015 can look warmer/browner under warm LED or sodium lighting and more neutral under daylight/5000K. This is normal metamerism and is more noticeable on dark, low-LRV colors.

• Approve and inspect samples under the same lighting used for acceptance.
• Avoid judging color under mixed sources; specify the inspection lighting in your documentation.
• If lighting is atypical, provide a reference part and request a sample panel to verify on site before production.

However, keep in mind that our version of RAL6015 Black Olive is based on the color swatch contained in the official RAL color book.
