RAL 6007 defines a color target, not the coating process. Use this quick check to decide:

• Acceptance against the RAL standard (fan deck/lab value): Standard RAL 6007 is appropriate, especially for cross-material coordination where sheen/texture already differ or for low-criticality repairs.
• Acceptance against an existing part or assembly: Prefer a sample- or OEM-based match. Powder vs liquid can differ in gloss and texture; matching the exact appearance often requires aligning gloss and finish type.
• Large, high-visibility areas or tight inspection criteria: Request a match to a provided part or specify the OEM powder code and gloss. Provide a clean sample panel if possible.
• Aged/faded parts: Do not order by the RAL code alone. Send a sample for a current-state match.
• Cross-process work (powder to liquid or vice versa): If sheen/texture differences are acceptable, standard RAL is fine. If not, specify gloss (e.g., matte/satin/gloss or 60 degrees GU) and request a finish match.

Bottom line: Use standard RAL 6007 for general coordination and small repairs. Use a sample/OEM match for critical cosmetics, large repaints, or when the part's finish (gloss/texture) must visually blend.

Coverage depends on substrate, application method, and film build. Planning guidance:

• Color/hiding: RAL 6007 is a dark green and generally hides well, but high-contrast substrates still benefit from a gray or tinted primer to reduce coat count.
• Aerosol touch-up: Plan roughly 8-10 sq ft per can in 1-2 light coats; more coats may be needed for uniform gloss and opacity.
• Quart/Gallon spray or roll: Plan about 300-350 sq ft/gal per coat at ~1 mil DFT on smooth, primed surfaces. Most projects require 2 coats for uniform color and sheen.
• Substrate prep: Prime bare metal and porous surfaces. For previously coated parts, scuff-sand and clean to promote adhesion and uniform gloss.
• Acceptance risk control: Target consistent film thickness and select the correct sheen. Verify color/appearance on a test panel under site lighting before committing.

Field touch-ups aim for acceptable appearance and protection, not a perfect factory blend.

• Sheen and texture: The primary risk is gloss/texture mismatch, especially when touching up powder-coated parts with liquid paint. Even with correct RAL 6007 color, a different sheen can make repairs visible at certain angles.
• Scale of repair: Small chips and edges can blend well; larger, flat areas are harder to disguise. For large or high-visibility surfaces, consider a custom match including gloss/texture or a full-panel repaint.
• Aging: Existing parts may have UV/weather wear. If the part is aged, a fresh standard RAL 6007 may read different; send a current sample if the repair must disappear.
• Technique: Feather sand, spot-prime bare metal, apply light coats, and allow full cure before evaluation. Choose the closest sheen (matte/satin/gloss) to the surrounding part.

Result expectation: acceptable blend for small defects; do not expect an invisible repair on large or textured powder-coated areas without finishing the entire section.

Select by defect size, visibility, and required blend quality:

• Touch-up pen: Best for hairline scratches and pinpoint nicks where precise application is needed. Minimal overspray; fast field use.
• Brush-in-cap bottle: For chips and small spots up to a few millimeters. Good for edges and hardware; feather for best blend.
• Aerosol spray: For scuffs, small panels, and blends up to ~2-3 sq ft. Provides finer atomization for better edge blend on powder-coated parts.
• Larger areas or uniform appearance: Move to quarts/gallons with proper spray equipment to control film build and sheen across the surface.
• Finish alignment: Specify the required sheen (matte/satin/gloss) to minimize visibility. If the surrounding part has a distinctive texture or known OEM powder code, request a match rather than a generic RAL.
• Substrate notes: Prime bare metal; use adhesion promoter where needed for plastics/composites. Test in a small area before proceeding.
