RAL 6005 Moss Green Paint

RAL 6005 Moss Green is a standardized color target; the code does not define gloss or texture. Order by the RAL code when acceptance will be against the RAL reference (not an existing part) or when close visual harmony is sufficient.

• Use the standard RAL 6005 when: acceptance is to the RAL standard; cross-material coordination already has different textures/sheens; repairs are small and low criticality.
• Send a physical sample for a custom match when: inspection will compare to an existing coated part; surfaces are high-visibility or large; sheen/texture must match; a specific OEM powder code/series is required.

What to include with your sample:

• Target gloss at 60 degrees (e.g., matte, satin, gloss) or allow measurement from your part.
• Whether texture is critical (powder orange peel vs smooth liquid).
• A clean, flat piece at least 3×3 in (75×75 mm), marked on the side to match.

Note: Exact duplication of unknown coatings and powder textures in liquid is not guaranteed; a sample enables the best achievable visual match for your acceptance method.

RAL 6005 defines color only. Sheen is a common reason dark colors are rejected, especially when touching up powder coat with liquid paint.

• State the gloss target at 60 degrees and a tolerance (e.g., ±5-10 GU). Typical ranges: matte ~10-20 GU, satin ~30-50 GU, high gloss ~70+ GU.
• If acceptance is against an existing part, measure the part's gloss or provide the part for measurement and matching.
• For field repairs with unknown sheen, make a small test area and allow full cure per the coating data sheet before judging. If mismatch remains, request a gloss-targeted match.
• Document the acceptance basis on the PO: RAL reference vs existing part, including gloss tolerance.

Coverage depends on substrate, primer shade, product type, and film build. RAL 6005 is a deep, low-LRV green, so planning the undercoat helps.

• Over light/white substrates: expect 2-3 coats for full hide; a gray/green-tinted primer can reduce coats.
• Over mid/dark primers or existing dark finishes: 1-2 coats is typical.
• For large areas, use a single batch/lot to minimize batch-to-batch variation within RAL tolerance.
• Confirm on a test panel before release to production to verify hide and sheen with your method (spray, brush, aerosol) and specified film thickness.

Powder coatings often have orange-peel texture. Liquid paints and aerosols lay smoother, so even with correct color and gloss, the smoother area can appear darker or richer-especially with dark RAL 6005.

• For small chips, the texture difference is often acceptable. For larger or inspected areas, define texture expectations or provide a part for a sample-based match.
• If you have an OEM powder brand/series code, use it to source powder or to target a match for the same gloss/appearance.
• State the acceptance basis up front: RAL reference, existing part, and any gloss/texture requirements.
