• Galvanized steel (new or weathered): Clean; lightly abrade/sweep. Use a galvanized-compatible primer (wash/etch or epoxy system) or a tie-coat before topcoat.
• Aluminum: Degrease and abrade. Use a self-etching or epoxy primer; conversion coating if available improves adhesion.
• Stainless steel: Degrease and abrade. Use an epoxy primer for adhesion.
• Plastics (ABS, PVC, etc.): Clean thoroughly. Use a plastic adhesion promoter and compatible primer; verify on a test piece.
• Previously coated surfaces: If intact, clean and scuff-sand; spot-prime any bare metal. If the existing coating is unknown, do a small compatibility test to check for lifting.
• Field touch-up: For chips to metal, spot-prime the exposed area; for minor scuffs on intact finishes, cleaning and direct topcoat may be sufficient.

Always state your required corrosion protection level and gloss/texture so the coating system can be specified correctly.
