  • High-visibility surfaces or large-area repaints on a single plane.
  • Inspection/acceptance is side-by-side against an existing part or master panel.
  • You must align to a known OEM powder code (specify the brand/series/code).
  • Gloss/texture must visually blend with existing coating.

Risks to manage: RAL is a color target, not a process. Powder vs liquid will differ in gloss/texture and may fail visual acceptance even if the hue is correct. Define gloss (e.g., 60 degrees reading) and texture in your PO, and evaluate color under the same lighting used for inspection (e.g., D65/5000K).

• Paint Pen: Fine scratches, edge nicks, fast line work on coated metals and hardware. Minimal masking; lowest film build; best for tight control.
• Brush Bottle: Chips up to coin size, bolt heads, brackets. Allows dabbing and feathering. Choose when minor texture is acceptable.
• Aerosol Spray: Larger scuffs and panels up to roughly 1-2 sq ft; best blend at edges when lightly feathered. Not for full panels where uniformity, gloss, and orange peel control are critical.

Tips for RAL 1017: Clean and degloss surrounding area, feather edges, and test on a spray-out card before the part. Match gloss to the existing part for best blend; textured powder coats will not visually match with smooth liquid touch-up. Evaluate under the same lighting used for acceptance.

• Bare carbon steel: Yes. Use a corrosion-resistant primer (e.g., zinc-rich or epoxy). For light-duty interior repairs, a DTM epoxy/urethane may suffice; for exterior or wet/corrosive service, prefer zinc-rich + epoxy build.
• Aluminum: Yes. Use an etch/wash primer or epoxy primer after deoxidizing and sanding. Avoid direct-to-metal alkyds on raw aluminum.
• Galvanized steel: Yes. Clean/neutralize, then use a galvanized-compatible wash or epoxy primer. Avoid saponification by ensuring surface is weathered/treated.
• Plastics (ABS, PVC, polycarbonate): Typically yes. Use a plastic adhesion promoter, then an appropriate primer. For PE/PP, specialty adhesion systems are required.
• Previously powder-coated parts: Usually no separate primer if coating is sound. Clean, degloss (scuff), spot prime bare metal only with epoxy. For difficult-to-wet surfaces or aggressive environments, a thin bonding or 2K epoxy primer improves adhesion.

Color-hiding note for RAL 1017 (yellow): Use a light/neutral gray undercoat for uniform hiding and batch-to-batch consistency. Always test adhesion and appearance on a small area or spray-out card under the inspection lighting.
