A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 34552 reads as a light, muted yellow-gold with a soft olive undertone. It is more subdued than a clear yellow and carries a restrained, slightly earthy character rather than a bright or highly saturated look.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference can be used for touch-up and fabrication work on panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, switch covers, carts, fixtures, hardware, and other specified parts. It is a practical choice for maintenance, restoration, prototypes, training aids, and color-coded components where the standard code is the target.
Because this is a lighter color, dark substrates, sharp edges, and uneven prep can show through more readily than they would under deeper colors. Sheen and film build also matter: gloss can make the yellow-gold read cleaner and slightly stronger, while texture or a thinner coat can make it appear softer and less even. On repairs next to older coatings, sheen differences and surface aging may be as noticeable as the color match itself.
A Fed Std 595C code identifies the color reference, but it does not define coating chemistry, gloss level, or acceptance status. For work that is inspection-critical or placed beside weathered existing paint, matching the current part or an approved sample may be more important than relying on the code alone.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 34552 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to order, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or approval status.
MyPerfectColor provides custom-matched paint to this reference, so use the code for the color target and choose the product format and coating system based on the job requirements.
Not always. A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 34552 is a match to the reference color, not necessarily to an older part that has faded, weathered, or changed sheen over time.
If you are touching up next to an in-service finish, the repaired area can still look different even when the color code is correct. For visible or acceptance-critical repairs, a sample panel or a match to the existing part may be the better choice.
Yes. Gloss, matte, satin, texture, and film build can all change how Fed Std 595C 34552 appears after application.
The same color can read differently depending on the finish and the substrate. If the finished appearance matters, choose the finish and application method as carefully as the color code.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 34552 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, enclosures, brackets, fixtures, color-coded hardware, prototypes, and mock-ups.
It is a color reference for the target appearance, not a description of the full coating system. Use it when a drawing, manual, or procurement package calls out this standard.
Choose the product format for the service environment and substrate, not from the color code alone. MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to Fed Std 595C 34552 is available in spray paint and other formats for specification-driven color work.
The right choice depends on whether the part is interior or exterior, how much wear it will see, and what material you are coating. If the job has abrasion, chemical exposure, or other durability needs, confirm the coating type before ordering.
