A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26586 is a light, muted beige with a warm yellow-olive undertone. It reads softer than a crisp tan and carries a subdued, slightly earthy character rather than a bright or strongly saturated look.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference is suited to touch-up and repaint work on panels, enclosures, brackets, control boxes, switch covers, hardware, and fabricated parts. It can also be used on carts, racks, housings, vent covers, and training or prototype components where a consistent spec color is needed across metal, plastic, or previously coated surfaces.
Because this is a lighter, low-chroma color, substrate color and surface condition can still influence the result. Darker bases, visible texture, or uneven film build may show through more than they would with a deeper color, and sheen differences can change how the warm undertone reads after application.
If you are matching an older in-service part, keep in mind that weathering, handling, cleaning, and sun exposure can shift the appearance away from the standard reference. In acceptance-sensitive work, the code alone may not match an aged coating closely, so comparing against the existing part or a project sample can be more useful than relying on the standard chip by itself.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26586 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion system, or any formal approval status.
For ordering, choose the MyPerfectColor paint format that fits the job, such as spray paint or touch-up paint, and treat the code as the color target rather than the full specification.
It may not look identical beside an aged coating, even if the code is correct. Weathering, fade, sheen changes, texture, and differences in the original coating can all make a touch-up stand out.
If the repair is on a visible surface or the existing finish is heavily aged, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part may be a better choice than relying on the standard color code alone.
Dry-to-touch, recoat timing, and full cure are different milestones, and the right timing depends on the specific MyPerfectColor product format you order for Fed Std 595C 26586.
Use the product directions for the selected coating, since spray paint, touch-up paint, and other formats can have different handling and recoat windows. If the project is important, test the process on a sample before painting the final part.
Yes. Gloss, matte, satin, texture, and film build can all change how Fed Std 595C 26586 appears after it is applied.
The color code gives the reference target, but the final look also depends on the finish you choose, the substrate, and how the paint is applied. For best results on a multi-part job, keep the finish and application method as consistent as possible across all parts.
Reorder by the exact code, the same product type, and the same finish. That is the best way to keep MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 26586 as consistent as possible from order to order.
Even with the same color reference, the final appearance can still shift with substrate, prep, and application method, so keep notes on what was used on the first part if you need to repeat the result later.
