A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 15090 reads as a deep blue-green with a cool bias, low lightness, and moderate chroma. It is darker than a midtone teal and stays subdued rather than bright, with a practical, equipment-focused character.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to the selected Fed Std 595C 15090 reference is intended for specification-driven work where the government color code is the target. The code itself does not define coating chemistry, gloss level, or approval status, so the finish system still needs to fit the part and the job.
This color can be used for touch-up and repaint work on equipment panels, enclosures, housings, brackets, rails, switch covers, grilles, carts, and fabricated accessories. It also works for color-coded components, mock-ups, and maintenance parts when different substrates or suppliers need to stay visually aligned to the same government standard reference.
Because the color is dark, surface prep, film build, and sheen can affect how it reads after application. Thin coverage over a lighter substrate may show contrast, and repairs beside older coatings can reveal differences in fade or gloss even when the color match is correct. For acceptance-sensitive or adjacency-sensitive work, a sample panel or comparison to the existing part can help judge the final result against the standard reference.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 15090 is a color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the paint chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, or project approval status.
If your specification only calls for the color, you can order MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 15090. If the job also requires a specific coating system or formal acceptance, that requirement has to be checked separately.
Not always. Weathering, sun fade, wear, texture, and the existing coating's sheen can make an aged part look different from the standard reference even when the color code is correct.
If the repair has to blend beside the old coating, a standard-code match may not be the best target. Matching the existing part or repainting the full part can reduce visible mismatch.
No. Fed Std 595C 15090 only defines the color target. It does not tell you whether the paint is right for interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemicals, or a specific substrate.
Choose the MyPerfectColor product type and format based on the service environment first, then use Fed Std 595C 15090 as the color reference.
If the drawing, procurement package, or engineering authority requires more than a standard color-code match, you may need a sample panel, an existing-part match, or project-specific signoff before ordering the final paint.
This is especially important for inspection-critical work, visible repairs, or jobs where acceptance depends on matching an in-service finish rather than the standard reference alone.
You can order MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to Fed Std 595C 15090 in formats such as spray paint, touch-up paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and other options where available.
Use the format that fits the size of the repair, the application method, and the substrate. The color reference stays the same even when the product form changes.
