A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 32516 reads as a warm, earthy tan-brown with a clear orange cast. It sits in the lighter midrange rather than as a deep brown, and the moderate chroma keeps it defined without pushing into a vivid or bright orange.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to this government color reference can be used for equipment panels, housings, enclosures, brackets, rails, vents, switch covers, carts, and fabricated parts when a specified tan-brown finish is needed. It is also a practical choice for touch-up on hardware, support fixtures, and prototype components that need to visually match the same Fed Std 595C code.
Because this color is moderately light and moderately saturated, coverage over dark or uneven substrates may take extra coats for even hide. Finish, texture, and film build can change how warm the color reads after spraying: gloss usually makes it look deeper and richer, while flatter finishes can soften the orange cast. When matching an existing part, sheen and weathering may matter as much as the code itself, especially beside aged coatings.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 32516 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion system, or formal approval status. If your project calls for Fed Std 595C 32516, order MyPerfectColor paint matched to that reference and then confirm the product format and finish that fit the job.
Not always. Even if the code is correct, an older coating can look different because of fade, weathering, sheen changes, texture, film build, or a different coating system underneath. If you are touching up beside an aged finish, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part may be the safer choice when appearance is important.
Yes, Fed Std 595C 32516 is commonly used for specification-driven parts such as panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, fixtures, and prototypes. It is a practical choice when the goal is to stay aligned with a government color standard across new parts or fabricated components. MyPerfectColor can supply a custom match to Fed Std 595C 32516 in formats such as spray paint or other available product types, depending on the project.
Sometimes, yes. A color code match to Fed Std 595C 32516 may be enough for routine specification work, but acceptance-critical or project-controlled jobs can require a sample panel, an existing-part match, or other project-specific approval steps. If the procurement package, drawing, or engineering authority asks for more than the standard reference, follow that requirement instead of relying on the code alone.
Before ordering, confirm the exact code, the product type you need, the finish, and the quantity. For custom-matched orders, review the details carefully because a MyPerfectColor custom color match is made to your selected Fed Std 595C 32516 reference and custom color orders are not returnable or refundable. If you are matching an existing part instead of the standard, make sure that is the order you intend to place.
