The amount you need depends on the surface size, texture, hiding power, application method, and how many coats your project needs. For custom spray paint, a typical can covers about 20 square feet with one coat. For other MyPerfectColor paint formats, coverage is typically about 400 to 600 square feet, depending on the product and surface.

If you are coating a rough, porous, or uneven item, plan for more paint than you would on a smooth surface. If you need full coverage over a darker or contrasting base, additional coats may also be required.

The best sheen depends on how the item will be used and how much reflectivity you want. Lower sheens usually reduce shine and can be less revealing of surface imperfections, while higher sheens reflect more light and are often easier to clean.

Keep in mind that the same Sunbonnet color can look different across sheens. If you are matching a part that will sit next to other painted items, choose the finish that fits the use of that specific item, not just the color name.

Sunbonnet custom spray paint is useful for small or awkward items that are easier to coat with spray than with a brush. Common examples include trim details, fixtures, railings, vents, pipes, hardware, accessories, and other removable parts that need a color match.

It is also a practical option for items like speaker grilles, switch covers, brackets, signs, baskets, and similar project parts where even spray coverage is more efficient than brush application.

Clean the surface first so dirt, grease, and other contamination do not interfere with adhesion. On metal, remove rust and loose material before painting. On an existing coating, make sure the old finish is sound, then scuff glossy areas so the new coating can grip better.

The condition of the old surface can affect the final result. Gloss, texture, and any peeling or chalking in the existing coating can change how Sunbonnet looks once it is applied, so damaged coatings should be addressed before you paint.

Yes. Even after you apply a MyPerfectColor match of Sunbonnet, the finished item can read differently depending on lighting, placement, sheen, and nearby surfaces. The same color can look warmer, flatter, brighter, or more reflective depending on where it is installed.

If the part will sit right beside an existing painted surface, lighting and surrounding materials can make differences more noticeable. For that kind of project, it is best to expect some visual shift after installation rather than relying on the color name alone.
