A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 34441 reads as a muted gray-green with a soft olive undertone and moderate lightness. It is not a bright green; the color sits closer to a restrained utility tone with enough chroma to show green, but enough gray to keep it subdued.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to a match of US Government AMS-STD-595 34441 is useful for specification-driven work on panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, switch covers, vents, carts, support hardware, and fabricated parts. It can also be used on training aids, mock-ups, and color-coded components where the goal is to keep parts visually aligned with a government color reference rather than guess from an aging sample.
Because this is a muted color, surface condition and finish can still shift how it reads. A smooth gloss surface may look a little cleaner and more reflective, while texture and primer color can make the gray or olive cast feel stronger. When matching an existing part, an aged coating may not look the same as the standard reference even if the code is correct.
For acceptance-sensitive or adjacent touch-up work, consider the condition of the surrounding coating, sheen, and substrate before ordering. MyPerfectColor supplies its own paint matched to the selected standard reference; the code alone does not define coating chemistry, approval status, or the finish system for the project.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 34441 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion protection system, or any formal approval status.
MyPerfectColor can supply paint matched to AMS-STD-595 34441, but if your project has a required coating system or acceptance process, that needs to be confirmed separately from the color code.
It can be used as a color reference, but a correct match to AMS-STD-595 34441 may still look different beside an aged coating. Weathering, fade, sheen change, texture, film build, and the original coating system can all affect the repaired area.
If the repair is highly visible or acceptance-critical, it is often better to compare against the existing part or use a sample panel before committing to a full touch-up.
A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 34441 is commonly used when a project calls for a specific government color reference on parts, equipment, or fabricated components. Typical uses include panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, carts, fixtures, color-coded hardware, mock-ups, and training or prototype parts.
This makes it useful for specification-driven work where the goal is to match the referenced color rather than choose a decorative finish.
For the best repeatability, reorder by the exact code, the same product format, and the same finish. A match of AMS-STD-595 34441 is still affected by substrate, preparation, and application method, so those details matter on multi-part or repeat orders.
If you are trying to match a previous job, keeping the same product type and finish is usually more important than the color code alone.
Finish can change how AMS-STD-595 34441 reads after it is applied. Gloss, matte, satin, texture, and film build can all make the same color code look lighter, darker, flatter, or more reflective once it is on the part.
If the visual result matters, try to keep the finish consistent with the existing surface and apply the paint to a similar substrate whenever possible.
