A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 27855 reads as a light, warm beige with a soft yellow undertone and moderate chroma. It is not a stark cream or a gray beige; the color has enough warmth to look slightly sandy while staying fairly restrained and light in value.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to the selected Fed Standard or AMS-STD-595 reference can be used for spray finishing equipment panels, enclosure doors, brackets, carts, vent covers, switch plates, and fabricated parts where a government-standard light beige is called out. It is also a practical match for restoration or prototyping on housings, support hardware, and other small components that need to follow the specified reference.
Because this is a light color, dark primers, uneven repairs, or previous coatings can show through if the film is applied too thinly. Finish and surface texture can also change how it reads: a matte surface may soften the warmth, while a glossier finish can make the yellow cast and any surface flaws more noticeable.
For acceptance-sensitive work, compare the matched paint to the specific part or approved sample when the existing coating has faded, worn, or changed sheen. The code identifies the color reference, but it does not define the coating chemistry, gloss level, or an official government-issued coating system.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
AMS-STD-595 27855 identifies the color reference target only. It does not choose coating chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion protection, or any approval status for the project.
If your specification calls for this code, order MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected government color standard. If the job also has a required coating system or acceptance process, confirm that separately before you order.
Not always. A correct match to AMS-STD-595 27855 can still look different next to an older coating because weathering, fade, sheen, texture, and prior coating differences all affect the repaired area.
If the surrounding finish is aged or the repair is highly visible, a match to the existing part or a full-part repaint may be a better decision than matching the standard code alone.
Plan dry time, recoat timing, and handling from the product format you order, not from the color code. Dry-to-touch, recoat, and full cure are different stages, and the timing can vary by format.
Use the instructions for the specific MyPerfectColor product you choose for AMS-STD-595 27855. Do not assume that spray paint, touch-up paint, epoxy, or urethane will all follow the same schedule.
Finish can change the way AMS-STD-595 27855 reads after application. Gloss, satin, matte, texture, and film build all affect the final appearance even when the color match itself is correct.
If sheen matters on the job, choose a finish that matches the surrounding surface and test a sample on the actual substrate before painting the full part.
Start by cleaning and degreasing the surface, then remove loose material, rust, or failing coating before applying AMS-STD-595 27855. Sound existing paint usually needs scuffing so the new coating can bond properly.
Bare metal or corrosion-prone areas may need primer before topcoating, and mixed substrates should be tested on a small area of the actual part before you commit to the full application.
MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use.
