A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 26373 reads as a muted gray-green with a near-neutral look and very low chroma. It is medium-light in value, so the green bias is subtle rather than strong, and the color tends to look practical and understated rather than bright.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint in this match can be used on equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, switch covers, cabinets, hardware, and fabricated parts that need to follow a government color reference. It also fits touch-up work on carts, rails, fixtures, supports, and prototype pieces where a consistent visual target matters across metal, plastic, or previously coated surfaces.
Because this is a standard reference color, the match is to the listed code rather than to an aged in-service coating. Sheen, texture, substrate, and film build can change how the color reads after application, and repairs next to weathered or sun-altered paint may show a difference even when the color code is correct.
MyPerfectColor supplies its own paint matched to the selected Fed Standard or AMS-STD-595 reference, not an official government-issued coating system. For work where the existing finish, acceptance requirements, or approved coating system are critical, the project specification should guide the final order choice.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
US Government AMS-STD-595 26373 defines a color reference target. It tells you what color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion protection system, or any formal approval status.
If your drawing, spec, or purchase order calls out this code, use it as the color target and then confirm the rest of the coating requirements separately.
It can be used as the color target, but an older in-service coating may not read the same as the standard because of fade, weathering, sheen change, texture, and prior coating differences. Even when the code is correct, the repair area can still look different next to the surrounding finish.
If the repair is visually critical or acceptance critical, consider matching the existing part, using a sample panel, or repainting the full part instead of relying on the code alone.
You can order MyPerfectColor paint matched to US Government AMS-STD-595 26373 in practical formats used for specification-driven work, including custom spray paint and other touch-up options where offered.
Use the color code as the reference target, then choose the format that fits the size of the part, the application method, and how much control you need on the repair or build.
A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 26373 is commonly used for government, military, fabrication, restoration, and prototyping work where a specification-driven color reference is needed. Typical uses include equipment panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, carts, fixtures, mock-ups, training aids, and color-coded hardware.
If your project is driven by a drawing, maintenance manual, technical order, or procurement package, this color code is the reference you would use to keep parts visually consistent.
Start by cleaning the surface well, then remove oils, dirt, and loose corrosion. On sound existing coatings, scuffing usually helps adhesion. On bare metal or mixed substrates, use a compatible primer when the project requires it.
Because substrate condition can change how US Government AMS-STD-595 26373 looks and performs, test a small area on the actual surface before coating the full part. That is especially important on repaired equipment or parts with unknown prior coatings.
MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to US Government AMS-STD-595 26373 enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.
The MyPerfectColor 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge spray paint need as the coverage is highly dependent on how it is applied. Learn more about how spray paint works at MyPerfectColor.
The US Government AMS-STD-595 26373 is the color portion of the spec. The remaining part of the spec will indicate the type of paint needed.
