A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 20252 is a warm, muted reddish brown with orange-brown undertones. It reads medium-deep rather than bright, with an earthy character and a low-LRV appearance that can look slightly oxidized instead of clear or vivid.

MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint for this US Government color reference is meant to follow the selected standard, not to supply an official government-issued coating system. That distinction matters when the target is the specification color itself, especially for new parts, replacements, or coordinated components made on different substrates.

In spray-paint form, this color can be used on fabricated panels, equipment housings, brackets, enclosures, covers, racks, carts, switch plates, and support hardware where a government-standard reference is required. It also works for touch-up on accessories and smaller parts that need to read consistently across metal, plastic, or composite surfaces.

Because the color is moderately deep, finish and substrate can change how it reads after application. Matte versus gloss, surface texture, film build, and the condition of the underlying part may shift the color slightly, and touch-up beside an aged coating can still show a difference even when the code match is correct.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ AMS-STD-595 20252 *

What does AMS-STD-595 20252 define when ordering MyPerfectColor paint?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 20252 is a color reference target. It tells you which government color to order, but it does not by itself define the paint chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion system, or any formal approval status. If your project needs a specific coating system or acceptance requirement, confirm those details separately before ordering.

Will AMS-STD-595 20252 match an older painted part exactly?

Not necessarily. A correct match to AMS-STD-595 20252 can still look different next to an in-service coating that has faded, weathered, changed sheen, or has a different texture or prior coating history. For touch-up work beside an older part, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part may be the better choice if visual consistency is critical.

How does finish affect AMS-STD-595 20252 after application?

Gloss, matte, satin, texture, and film build can all change how AMS-STD-595 20252 appears after it is applied. The same color reference can read differently depending on the finish and the substrate. If appearance matters, choose the finish intentionally and, when possible, compare the result on the actual part material.

What should I confirm before ordering custom MyPerfectColor paint for AMS-STD-595 20252?

Before ordering, confirm the exact code AMS-STD-595 20252, the product type, the finish, and the quantity you need. MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint is made to the selected government color reference, so review the order carefully before purchase. Custom-made color matches are not returnable or refundable, so it is important to verify the project requirements first.

How do I improve consistency when reordering AMS-STD-595 20252 for a multi-part project?

Reorder by the exact code AMS-STD-595 20252, plus the same product type and finish you used before. That gives you the best chance of repeatable results on a multi-part project. Even then, substrate, prep, and application method can change the final look, so keep those variables consistent when appearance needs to stay uniform.
