A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 15050 reads as a very dark blue-green with a cool, muted character. The low LRV keeps it close to black in lower light, while the blue side remains visible enough to keep the color from reading as a plain neutral. It has a restrained, specification-driven appearance rather than a vivid one.

MyPerfectColor custom-matched spray paint made to match the selected AMS-STD-595 reference can be used on panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, switch covers, equipment guards, railings, racks, and fabricated parts where a government color standard is called out. It is also useful for touch-up on carts, support hardware, instrument faces, training aids, and prototype components when separate parts need to stay visually aligned to the same reference.

Because this is a very dark color, surface condition, sheen, and film build can be noticeable after application, especially on large flat metal or plastic parts. The code itself does not define gloss level, coating chemistry, or approval status, and a standard-reference match may not duplicate the look of an aged or weathered coating on an existing part. For inspection-sensitive work, comparing against the actual surface or an approved sample panel can matter more than the code alone.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ AMS-STD-595 15050 *

What does AMS-STD-595 15050 mean when ordering a match of US Government AMS-STD-595 15050?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 15050 is a government color reference target, not a full coating specification. It tells MyPerfectColor which color to match, but it does not define chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion system, application method, or approval status. If your project needs a specific coating system or acceptance process, confirm that separately before ordering.

Can MyPerfectColor match AMS-STD-595 15050 to an existing weathered coating on my part?

Yes, but a standard match and an existing-surface match are not always the same. Weathering, fade, sheen, texture, and film build can make the correct AMS-STD-595 15050 color look different next to an older coating. If the repair will sit beside aged paint or the area is highly visible, matching the existing part or repainting the full part may be the safer choice.

What should I check before ordering a custom match of US Government AMS-STD-595 15050?

Confirm the exact color code, the product type you need, the finish, and the quantity before you place the order. Custom-matched paints are made to your selection, so mistakes in code, format, or sheen can lead to the wrong result. Custom color matches are not returnable or refundable, so verify the details first.

Is AMS-STD-595 15050 enough to choose the right paint for interior or exterior use?

No. AMS-STD-595 15050 gives you the color target, but the service environment still determines whether the coating needs to handle interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemicals, or a specific substrate. Choose the product based on the environment and the coating system requirements, not just the color code.

What product formats are available for AMS-STD-595 15050 from MyPerfectColor?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 15050 can be ordered as MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in spray paint and other formats where available, such as touch-up paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles. Pick the format that fits the size of the repair, the level of control you need, and the surface you are coating.
