A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 14516 reads as a light, muted green-gray with a soft yellow-green cast. The low chroma keeps it subdued rather than bright, and the mid-light value gives it enough body to hold color without looking dark.

MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint is made to match the selected Fed Std 595C or AMS-STD-595 reference, which is useful when a drawing, maintenance note, or procurement package calls for 14516. In spray paint, it can be used on panels, enclosures, brackets, cabinets, control boxes, fixtures, carts, vents, and fabricated hardware where a specified government color reference needs to be carried across metal, plastic, or composite parts.

Because the color is light and muted, it may show darker substrate contrast if coverage is thin or the base coat is uneven. Surface texture, sheen, and film build can shift the final read, and repairs beside aged or weathered coatings may not blend exactly even when the code match is correct.

This is MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected government color reference, not an official government-issued coating system. For acceptance-sensitive work, a standard-chip match may still need to be checked against the existing part or project-specific finish requirements.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ AMS-STD-595 14516 *

What does AMS-STD-595 14516 mean, and what does it not define for my project?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 14516 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define paint chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or any formal approval status.

If your project only needs the specified color reference, MyPerfectColor can supply paint matched to AMS-STD-595 14516. If the job also requires a specific coating system or acceptance process, confirm those requirements before ordering.

Will AMS-STD-595 14516 match an older painted part, or do I need to match the existing finish?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 14516 is the correct reference only if the project calls for that standard color. It may still look different next to an older part that has faded, weathered, changed sheen, or built up texture over time.

For touch-up beside an in-service coating, a standard-code match is not always the best choice. If appearance around the repair is critical, compare against the existing part or use a sample panel before committing to the full job.

What kinds of projects use AMS-STD-595 14516 color matches?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 14516 is commonly used when a project needs a specified government color reference for parts, panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, fabricated components, mock-ups, or training hardware.

MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint can be used when the goal is to coordinate new parts or replacement items to the same government standard across different substrates or suppliers. It is better suited to specification-driven work than to decor or room-color decisions.

Can I return a custom order for AMS-STD-595 14516 if the color is not what I expected?

Custom color orders should be reviewed carefully before purchase because they are made to your selected government color reference. Before ordering AMS-STD-595 14516, confirm the exact code, product type, finish, and quantity you need.

For that reason, custom-matched orders are generally not a safe purchase if you are unsure about the reference or the required finish. If the project is acceptance-sensitive, verify the target color and coating requirements first.

How do I reorder AMS-STD-595 14516 to keep colors consistent across multiple parts?

For repeat orders, use the exact AMS-STD-595 14516 code and keep the same product type and finish whenever possible. That gives you the best chance of matching the original order from MyPerfectColor.

Even with the same code, the final appearance can still shift with substrate, primer, film build, and application method. If consistency is critical across a multi-part project, keep the same process and compare a test application before finishing the full set.
