A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 14090 is a deep green with a cool, blue-leaning undertone. It reads darker than a mid-tone green and has enough chroma to look clear rather than gray, while the low LRV gives it a subdued, dense appearance.

MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference can be used on brackets, housings, enclosures, panels, railings, switch covers, hardware, and fabricated parts where a repeatable spec color is needed. It is also a practical choice for maintenance touch-up on carts, fixtures, equipment supports, and prototype assemblies when the goal is to match the selected standard on small or detailed surfaces.

Because this is a dark, moderately saturated color, surface condition and finish can change how it reads after application. Light or uneven substrates may need careful priming and full film build for even coverage, and gloss level can make texture, edges, and repair boundaries more noticeable. A standard-reference match is not the same as matching an aged or weathered coating, so adjacent in-service paint may appear different even when the code is correct.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ AMS-STD-595 14090 *

What does AMS-STD-595 14090 mean when I order MyPerfectColor paint?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 14090 is a government color reference target. When you order MyPerfectColor paint matched to AMS-STD-595 14090, you are choosing the color reference, not a complete coating system.

The code does not by itself define product chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or formal approval status. If your project has a required primer, finish, or acceptance process, choose those items separately from the color code.

Will MyPerfectColor AMS-STD-595 14090 match an older coated part exactly?

Not always. MyPerfectColor can make a match of AMS-STD-595 14090, but an older in-service coating may have faded, weathered, changed sheen, or built texture over time.

If you are touching up beside an existing part, the standard color match may still look different on the repaired area. For high-visibility repairs, it can be better to compare against the existing part or repaint the full part instead of relying only on the code.

What documentation applies to AMS-STD-595 14090 from MyPerfectColor?

The color code AMS-STD-595 14090 is the color reference. SDS and product data belong to the specific MyPerfectColor paint you choose, not to the color code itself.

If your job requires material documentation, review the SDS and product information for the selected paint format and chemistry. If the project also needs a specific government or military approval path, confirm that requirement separately because the color code alone does not establish compliance.

How can finish affect how AMS-STD-595 14090 looks after application?

Finish can change the way AMS-STD-595 14090 appears after it is applied. Gloss, satin, matte, texture, and film build can all make the same matched color read lighter, darker, or different in appearance.

For best planning, match the color code and also choose the finish that fits the project. If the existing part has a specific sheen or texture, a color match alone may not reproduce the full visual result.

How do I reorder MyPerfectColor AMS-STD-595 14090 for a repeat job?

For the best repeatability, reorder by the exact code AMS-STD-595 14090 and keep the same MyPerfectColor product type and finish on every part of the job.

Even with the same color match, substrate, primer, application method, and film thickness can change the final look. If the project is multi-part or spread across different materials, use the same ordering details and process as closely as possible.
